I'd probably give this 3.5 stars if possible because it's weird. I totally appreciate the unpredicted twists and turns, but you gotta be smart about it, too. The reason why everything is unpredictable comes down to how weird those actual twists are. The illness doesn't really make sense, the cause of the outbreak and rapid zombification doesn't really make sense, a lot of stuff is confusing and stays that way. I mean, I do like being surprised, but this is an altogether different kind of surprise. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt by saying 4 stars, but it really should be 3 or 3.5

DNFing at 8%.

Spelling errors, capitalization errors, oddly constructed sentences that you have to read multiple times to understand.

At least it was free and I didn't waste money on this.

Hauntingly beautiful

Wow. I was blown away by this book. There were moments where I nearly cried, moments where I felt aching nostalgia, and moments of fear. What a powerful story. It is much more than just another zombie book. Highest recommendation.

Disclosure: I received a free audible copy of this via Audiobookboom.com for an unbiased review.

I know, another zombie book. I have a weakness for them and I liked this one. Reasonably well-developed characters, good plot, and an original twist on the zombies, which I won't spoil. The audio narration is well-done, with a voice appropriate to the main character, Amo. Most of the story is told from the Amo's point of view, which largely works. There are a few times when he drifts off into reveries that get a little boring or repetitious, but not many. I enjoyed this so much, I immediately went in search of the next book in the series. It looks like this is the only volume in audio as of yet, but the kindle omnibus of books one thru three is free on Amazon, so I snapped that up. If you enjoy zombie or apocalypse tales, I recommend this series.

  • Flaws of characters a main focus? No

It started out good enough but it was so slow through most of the book where he was alone. I pushed through hoping for what, I’m not sure… but the end didn’t justify the means for me.

ARC

A thoroughly enjoyable zombie romp unlike any other piece of zombie lore I've come across.

This story weaves a wonderful tragicomic tale of apocalypse where we follow Amo as he comes to terms with all that has happened. I feel like I really can't say very much about this story without spoiling what I would deem to be the pinnacle of the tale.

As with previous Grist novels, it is well written and nicley paced. I read the whole thing over a two day period and everytime I put it down, I found myself itching to get back to it to see what happened.

This isn't horrific, but it surely isn't good. I made it 45% before DNF. Slightly spoilery review, so if you have any desire to read this, skip the rest of my review.

The moment the reveal of the cause of the apocalypse was the main character, Amo, HAVING SEX.... I knew I wasn't going to last. I very quickly became irritated with the writing style and I did not enjoy the way this story was headed. Amo was frustrating. Hed begin thinking about how he should be a better person and not mindlessly kill all of the zombies.... then guess what he would do..... kill all the zombies he came in contact with. He kept focusing on this woman, Lara, he had ONE date with and how he was convinced she had survived, when literally no one else has.

This was ludicrous. I can't do it anymore. I feel horrible. I wanted to enjoy this, but I just didn't.

This is a very unusual zombie apocalypse tale. I enjoyed it very much and have already downloaded book 2 in this series because I'm very interested in finding out what happens next. It has been one wild adventure so far. As you probably expect, there is a lot of violence. The first 20-30% of the book also has quite a bit of cursing and I almost stopped reading. But, just as I decided that the next rant would be the end for me the author decided that enough was enough on his own. I do understand that if I was in the exact same situation I might curse due to extreme fear, anger and downright frustration. I hope not but maybe. Other than that and a few grammatical errors I highly recommend it.
