After the Bell Rings by Carol Diggory Shields, published in 2015. Age Level: 2nd-4th. This book is a collection of poems that describe common experiences of students as soon as school gets out for the day. There are many different situations that students could find themselves in, such as homework, eating food that they do not want, and avoiding chores around the house by playing video games. These experiences are often common between many students that will come across this book, leading to a great sense of relatability. I could use this book in my classroom as a stress free read for my students to share a laugh over. Although the educational content is not very high, I do think that students could use this book to find literary devices in and study the aspects of poetry.
