This book was so good. This is one of the first times I have read in verse. I usually refer novels to poetry but THIS. BOOK. It was heartbreaking and beautifully written. In most cases it didn’t feel like it was the time period and the main character felt younger, if that makes any sense.

I’ve never read a book in verses before and I loved it.
However what I didn’t like about this was that timeline was 60’s and a lot of the time I felt like I was a time traveler and the time and the place didn’t exist on a new verse.
So it would go from “ok I’m getting a little 60s here” then the next one it’s like “now we’re in what current times?, and location anywhere”. Which got annoying and I just wanted to finish this because I wanted to see how it ended.
I also had a not love… but idk what to call it/hate relationship with the main character. To me, she was a self centered bitch “excusez mon français”.
You know. Yes I actually hated Maisie, and I felt bad for her in the beginning and I’m glad she had somewhat of a happy ending.

I think I've discovered I just heavily dislike novels in verse. This story made very little rhyme or reason. However, it was an interesting story nonetheless outside of the parental abuse. I now know why I have never seen this novel in a book store.
