This is my favourite book in the whole series, not before or since (I'm up to book 11) did any of the books entice me like this one.

It's not just that we learn the why behind Will and Amanda. It's the whole book. Everything from the compelling plot, the dual time lines, the characters, the writing, the style, and the pacing. Everything is just right.

This was an incredibly slow book that was difficult to finish because the plot just wasn’t there. It wasn’t until the very end of the book that things finally started to get interesting. Not the book for me.

3.5 stars. I had a hard time following. The plot was fine I guess. And the skipping back and forth btwn timelines wasn't an issue in itself. The blatant racism bigotry and misogyny wasn't even a factor. It's just how those times were.
I THINK it was the amount of characters to keep up with. There are officers, witnesses, sex workers, suspects...whew. I was about to make a string board to keep up.
