This book was a good sequel but had too many inconsistences for me. Amy changes her mind about Elders betrayal in book one rather quickly and forms a romantic relationship for no reason. She also comes off as quite whiney and deliberately against a lot of his decisions. Elder seems like he has had no character development and just reads quite boring tbh. I think this is an interesting premise but just wasn't my taste in execution.

EASILY fills you in on the aftermath of what happened after Across the Universe. There was an escape room vibe to this book that kind of felt repetitive sometimes, but it’s worth reading in order to get to book #3 which closes everything out very, very well. I didn’t waste my time with this book at all.

A Million Suns has such a promising premise and many interesting moments to explore. However, it fell flat because of the characters and the plot. The book is marketed as a romance but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Amy and Eldest have no chemistry and very few romantic moments throughout the book.

The plot of the book is hard to invest in because the motivations for the characters seem unnecessary. Amy's main goal is to decipher the clues left to her by Orion, who if I remember correctly from the first book, MET HER ONCE. It doesn't make sense that Orion would leave clues at all, let alone leave them for Amy. Why wouldn't he tell someone he trusted his secret? Or if he thought Amy was the best equipped to handle the secret, why not simply tell her? Plus when the big secret is finally revealed, it is something that I had already assumed so it was a huge letdown.
SpoilerReally?! The planet might be dangerous when they land?? If it WASN'T dangerous when they landed that would be a very boring third book

Meanwhile, Elder's main plot is trying to maintain his leadership on Godspeed. This doesn't make sense either. His only claim to leadership is that he was born into it, and even he says the system doesn't make sense, not to mention he had major issues with the only other two Eldests he's known. He has no training or experience that any other member of the ship couldn't learn in a day, and he's literally the youngest one on board!. We witnessed Elder's "training" in book one--and from what I remember there wasn't any training at all! He also does a terrible job of maintaining any sort of authority on board. People are constantly questioning and undermining him and yet he never uses his wi-com to speak to the entire ship and explain himself. It's even weirder that Amy supports him so much considering she grew up in a democracy. When the reader agrees with the bad guy's logic more than the main characters there is something wrong.

There are also a lot of logic problems. There are several points in the plot when Elder operates complicated machinery with no knowledge of how to work it. Also, how exactly does Godspeed work??
Spoiler When Amy finally finds the staircase that Orion led her to, she says the stairs lead all the way to the keeper level and estimates it is twice as tall as the Empire State Building. So before inventing grav tubes the Eldest had to walk up over three THOUSAND steps just to get home every day?

The biggest issue in the book is the characters. Amy and Elder are both flat and uninteresting, and in moments of crisis they mostly just give up.
Spoiler Elder runs away from every fight that breaks out. When the bridge explodes, Elder doesn't try to save Shelby even though he says she is so close he could have probably reached out and grabbed her if he tried. He then assumes that the bridge being breached means they can absolutely not use it to land the ship. Why not use the space suits to check it out? Then when the bomb explodes in the hospital, Amy doesn't try to get to the cyro level even though she says she can see the floor fairly close at the end of the stairs. Her parents could be burning to death and she just runs back upstairs!
Despite dangerous situations I don't like characters, especially the heroes of the book, to give up so easily.

Overall, I just felt that the flat characters and unrealistic character motivations overshadowed the interesting moments in the book.

Almost every time I read the next book in a series, I end up disappointed. That definitely was not the case when I read this one.

After reading the first book, I could not wait for the next one to come out. It had been a while since I had finished the book when I finally went to Barnes & Noble for the first time in months and I started weeding my way through all the new books that had come out since I had last been there, when I saw this one: the next book.

Needless to say, I stopped searching right there and snatched the book up to buy it, then brought it home to read it, and fall in love with Beth Revis' writing all over again.

Beth Revis is truly one of my top 5 authors. She writes so beautifully, descriptive without being overwhelming; you know exactly what she is trying to show you.

There were a couple times while I was reading this book that I actually shouted out loud (my parents looked concerned), because the book was so perfect. I got so absorbed in it that I just didn't want to put it down (like with the first book, who knew!), and when I finished it (why weren't there hundreds of more pages?), all I could think was: I cannot wait for the next one!

This series and this author both make my top 5 (it's either top 1 or 2, a tie with the Uglies series, by Scott Westerfeld), and I recommend this series to anyone that loves an original storyline, science fiction, original characters, drama, character depth, and gorgeous writing.

Amy's first chapter really stuck with me. I love the way that it confused me at first, and then broke my heart. It was wonderfully written and one of many favorites from both books.

I am so excited to read more from Beth Revis; she is truly amazing!

This series keeps getting better and better. Amy is trying to blend in, but she misses her planet and elder tries to be a good leader without the drug, but nothing really works the way everyone wants it too.

Questo mi è piaciuto molto di più del primo volume.

Spoiler Anche se non posso fare a meno di chiedermi se Terra-Centauri sia in realtà la vera Terra... però si dice che su Centauri ci sono due soli, per cui non può essere.

In some ways I was disappointed with this sequel, but I still enjoyed it overall. I didn't like the scavenger-hunt thing Amy had to go through to find out the big secret, as it just didn't make sense. Why wouldn't Orion have just told Amy outright what was going on? Okay, maybe he was worried about the info falling into the wrong hands. But why not leave her a note where only she could find it? After all, if she could solve the clues, someone else could too, and he was taking a big risk in gambling that she'd figure everything out. That aside, I did get into the book and have trouble putting it down. There's lots of action and multiple problems that Elder has to deal with, which sets the pace as the chaos builds and builds and finally erupts. There's a huge twist that totally shocked me, as well as a cliffhanger at the end that has me anxious for the next book, Shades of Earth, to come out next year. This is a great series for reluctant sci-fi readers. It's got some fun outer-space aspects, but it's not very technical and the focus is on the story rather than the setting.
