It was a 2,7 or smth. It was an okay book but bc I had to read it for school it was a lot less fun. The ending was good and kinda unexpected though.

SPOILERS:
i remember reading this in fourth grade. but i cant remember if i loved it or it was over my head. but it has really good characters, especially jeremy simms. hes the neatest.
but cassie just goes through the novel, not understanding why white people treat black people the way that they do. she learns about how things are, but refuses to accept them. finally near the end, a crisis makes everyone work together despite their race.

An easy read with some very important themes.

I was thinking about how I read this in high school and I had to perform a scene from it. I played a fat, black, southern grandmother.
