Good
It was slow in the beginning but picked up part way through. It was good and I want to find out what happens with Violet.

I really loved this book! Great idea for a story, and I loved her character development.
Nope. B movie idea that was just entertaining enough to get through until the very end when everything went off the rails. Her falling in love was trite and the ending was borderline absurd. It didn't follow anything that came before it. Merda ex machina or something to that effect. I suppose it's a series, as evidenced by #1. I hope it gets better, but I'll never know.
This is not the book that we should be reading in 2018. This book is just full of tired gender roles and stereotypes. And of course Honestly just read anything else. Please. I beg you. This book is damaging.
Spoiler
the one person who was "born in the middle" between the partiarchy & matriarchy turns out to be evil and/or mentally ill (the narrator says he might have a "split-personality disorder")... like-- okay, first off, I just want to point out that the narrator is the evil, mentally ill one. Like, baby girl murdered two people and didn't even care. And second, is the author truly suggesting that people who are gender nonconforming have something wrong with them?! WHAT?

Very nice book.Lee was a douche btw
I did not expect this free book that showed up as a Facebook ad to be so captivating and good! I was hooked almost instantly and I cannot wait to read the second book. If you like dystopian YA I recommend this book!
Really I'd give this a 3.5 because though I had issues with it, by the end I was left involved, excited and wanting more and really that's the most important thing about a book, isn't it? It was a fairly brainless read though, being the nature of the story, and written with a juvenile tone. I appreciated the inciting incident, not only for the protagonist but also Viggo. "The Gender Game" was a fun read but surface level in its intelligence and theme.
This is a short review. The full version will be posted on my blog https://tizzymatic.wordpress.com
I almost gave this novel 5 stars. The two differing societies are pretty much the same (or we just didn't have enough context for the Patriarchy side). I would have rather liked to choose a side that I felt was better.
That decision couldn't be made. Also, Violet, the main character does some questionable things, but she is 19, so I let it go.
I highly recommend even with this short review!

Made it to 42% and couldn't continue. It just seems pretty bland. Also, I'm burned out on "I'm not like other girls" girls.
This was a fast read with a great cast of characters. Again I am wondering whether to continue the remaining books in series. Why is that I like the idea of leaving well enough alone?
