The Gender Game

3.6 AVERAGE

I got taken in by the whole “for fans of the Hunger Games and Divergent series”. I was much younger when I read those books so perhaps I’d feel differently about this book if I’d read them years ago, but this book felt like it was for a younger audience than my 27 years. I listened to the audiobook which was fine because, due to the simple storytelling, didn’t require my full attention and was easy to dip in and out of. The story was fine, just average. I didn’t realise that the book was part of a series. I am semi curious about what happens to the main character Violet following the events at the end of The Gender Game, but not enough to read the next book.

Enjoyed this easy read. Questions continued to arise which kept me interested. There was a big cliffhanger at the end though and I do not care enough to read the next book.

It was somewhat predictable, but I still enjoyed the story and will read more.

DID NOT FINISH

Could not make myself finish the last 100 pages. Just didn’t care.
adventurous mysterious tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Better than you'd think, worse than you'd hope.

Excellent start to the series, a great different twist on this genre, looking forward to the rest.

DNF @ 50%. I can’t get into this book. I don’t care about the plot or characters and I just don’t like the direction of the story. It’s not for me.

I’m not sure about this one. I found the second half compelling. And, it’s not every day that you find a female main character who has killed people. But, I also wonder where the non cis male/female people are. And why are there not more people who are in the middle of matriarchy vs. patriarchy argument. My hope is that these themes are explored in subsequent novels.

Great book

This was a great book from beginning to end. A lot of action and suspense. Can't wait to read the next book!
