Thank you to the author, Bradeigh Godfrey, for this gifted paperback ARC that I won in her giveaway and for my very own pink sunglasses! I am leaving this review voluntarily.
1. ๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ - I think that the world-at-large often forgets that influencers are real people with real emotions. Mollyโs haters are highlighted throughout the story and show the direct opposition to her real life.
2. ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฌ - There are several parts of this story that made me wonder what I would do in such cases. And I donโt think any of the decisions were terrible. In the heat of the moment, all bets are off.
3. ๐๐ฐ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ - Underlying secrets glue the parts of this story together. We know the basics of what occurred with Livโs sister, but as the story progresses, the truths begin seeping out.
4. ๐๐ซ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐ - We get to see what true love really looks like with two couples (and one of the past) - Molly and Scott and Liv and Jeremiah. I truly enjoyed reading the stories of the budding love between each couple.
5. ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฒ - Lots of different aspects of family within the lives of our characters. Overall, family is the one thing that truly triumphs over all else.

The ending upped the rating for sure. Was worried it would let me down but it was better than anticipated.
It started off pretty strong, but it started to decline around 80%...just didn't like certain choices.
The cover promises way more thrills than the book actually delivers.
The problem with The Followers isnโt the plot, because itโs actually a really good plot. The issue is the characters. Not only does one of the two female protagonists not seem to know how to Google or have any semblance of common sense even though sheโs an influencer with millions of followers, but I just couldnโt connect with any of the characters. I just didnโt identify with them and, as a result, I was just very bored.
I also didnโt care about (and was really annoyed by) all the snippets of chats or forums full of hate for Molly. They ripped me out of the story and were annoying. Iโm seeing this method of exposition used in more and more books and Iโve ended up rating every book that uses this method lower than other books I read. An infodump is an infodump. Readers arenโt dumb.
So Iโd like to say this book is terrific and groundbreaking, but itโs simply very average.

The plot sped this book along. The twist wasnโt shocking, but I hadnโt figured it out on my own.

This book was... fine? It wasn't a bad thriller but it didn't stand out either. I think overall it was a decent storyline and I didn't find it overly unrealistic as thrillers go, despite being rather unpredictable.
Graphic: Kidnapping, Murder
3.5 - pretty cheesy at certain points but overall it held my attention the entire time and I was invested in the outcome.
This was a palate cleanser for me. It was a light murder/mystery read. The character development was lacking, and several of the characters made really dumb decisions, but overall it was entertaining & enjoyable, and I liked the authorโs writing style. 3.5 โญ๏ธs rounded up.
