Milena is so freaking good, I've become such a huge fan in such a short time. The emotion in her books is so strong that completely captures you. I absolutely loved a Whisper of Solace, and that little throwback to The Headmistress was just golden. The McKay Universe is a Thing for me now.

I love a good complex character and this is four hundred pages of a really interesting character slowly coming to deal with her trauma and heal. It's also four hundred pages of angst, which doesn't hurt. I really enjoyed reading this, but prepare for pain.

A Whisper of Solace is a beautifully written story. I mean with an abundance of sensual spicy scenes that will have you blushing, heartbreaking angst, and an amazing character arc there isn’t much that you can do wrong. I was expecting things to take some time to pick up, but the story plops you right in the middle of the action. I don’t think anyone is a big fan of the “poor communication” trope, but I will say it didn’t bother me that much with this. I don’t know if it was because my brain was able to justify Neve’s reasoning thanks to the juxtaposition of the therapy scenes or if the story is just THAT good. I can’t think of anything that would justify me giving this any less than 5 stars. This was an amazing book to start 2024!

Captivated, riveted, spellbound, and breathless, are just some of the adjectives to describe my emotions while reading this layered tale. Milena McKay is a brilliantly gifted author. She's able to create a character like Neve Blackthorn who is so complex that it's almost like she's a real person. God, this book. I was grabbed from the first word and could not put this book down. There were times while I was reading that I found myself holding my breath. The foreshadowing elements, descriptive detail, dialogue, and characterization of Neve and Aubrey are stellar. I'm in awe of how talented Milena McKay is. Thank you for sharing this amazing novel with the world!

The plot and twists were a bit predictable for me, but I still enjoyed the ending and the book as a whole.

This book broke my heart so many times before making it whole again. I struggled to put it down.
I absolutely fell in love with Neve Blackthorne, with all her flaws, all her fears, all the pain in her heart. One of the best written characters I've read. It's fascinating to watch someone so powerful, so self-contained come completely undone for their one true love.
This was my first book by Milena McKay but it definitely won't be the last.
