I have read a couple books in this series. They are quick reads. They are also cozy mysteries. Which in both cases this book was a quick, cozy read. Yet, I sadly had a hard time connecting with the characters and found the story bland. In fact, I would start reading in bed and grow sleepy quickly after just a few chapters. The storyline was fine but with no connection to the characters and the action mild, the book as a whole just did not work for me. Although I will read other books in this series as they are fun to read.

This one we'll call a lite murder mystery. Set in small town Tinker's Cove, one of the locals is murdered and his body is found in the trunk of a car that is having pumpkins hurled at it during the Great Pumpkin Festival.

I bought this on clearance at Target and it was totally fine. Low stress, which is kind of funny for a murder mystery. Pretty fluffy for the most part with a hint of women's rights which I didn't expect. It was quick and easy and I was not surprised by who the bad guy was in the end.

At some point, after 30 books of murders in your idyllic coastal Maine town your protestations at the beginning of the book that nobody locks their doors and no one could ever hurt a fly ring hollow! This book is a like but not love, although I would read more in the series. I enjoyed the pumpkin regatta and the fall atmosphere but the murderer is way too obvious and the ending (surprisingly dark for a cozy) makes so little sense.

Thank you for Netgalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first book read written by Leslie Meier. As an avid reader of cozy mysteries, I was somewhat disappointed by this book. I felt no real connection with the characters and the mystery of Ev's murder.

That being said, it was a quick read and and the events of the Pumpkin Fest were cute.

A well done seasonal cozy mystery. The pumpkin festival setting was fun.
