I had written a giant review about this book and I lost all of it. To summarize:

Callie's trauma is treated poorly. It's been written badly and with definite bias about how the author thinks trauma should be healed and how people should recover. Mainly with a 'push through it to be normal'. Which is not how any of this works.

And I dnf'd the book when Callie discovered the pregnancy from her rapists and people tried to convince her it was a good thing even though she is fully having a me talk breakdown over it. It's ridiculous.

Plus the idea that a super advanced alien federation has no such thing as therapists is so far fetched it's ridiculous. Yah we have space travel and can go across the universe in a blink of an eye but therapists??? That's too advanced for us! No sir! We do not have those.

I ready 60% and I won't finish the rest. It was just too ridiculous and I disliked how poorly Callie's trauma was treated.

I was honestly nervous starting this book. I didn't love the first book (I liked Arokh but not Angie so much), but I was intrigued and really wanted to know what Callie's story would be. I'm very glad I went ahead with reading this. I knew what the content warnings would be and that helped prepare me to deal with the tough scenes and trauma.

I feel like this book was therapeutic for me. The descriptions of events, the flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts felt real, and I'm so glad that Callie had the strong but gentle and patient mate that is Z.

This story is a healing journey and an emotional slow burn romance between a sexu@lly traumatized woman and her alien rescuer. It does not sugar coat things, and it also discusses the trauma and choices that other characters have gone through.

This is not a book with a fun adventure. The two characters are confined to one place for most of the book. It was different than other books I've read, and I am glad I read it. I cried, I laughed, and I loved the characters.

I've read four of Amanda Milo's books so far, and I continue to be impressed with how well she writes the male aliens' POV. They feel so real and alien, but relatable at the same time.

I would take off maybe half a star rating for one scene that I think could have been handled better between Callie and her friends and their mates. I feel like they were very pushy in front of Z and everyone about a very sensitive topic. It did help move things along... But I cannot imagine real friends talking to a r@pe survivor about that in that way.

I see other reviews saying that this gets pro-life, but I didn't get that feeling. I was surprised by
Callie's choice, but there are survivors who make the choice she made. I feel like the author tried to show that it was okay to make the opposite choice by the discussion that Callie has with Gracie, who chose to drink the @bortion drink.
Survivors are allowed to have conflicting feelings. All feelings are valid.

This one was SO SAD…. but then, obviously, it ends happily. I really like the way Amanda Milo writes. She takes weird and difficult situations, and makes them seem both funny and cute.

I knew going in that this would be a tough one based on what we knew about Callie and it was. She has a LOT of trauma. I really loved how the hero treated her. He was so gentle and perfect.

We follow a different couple but the story still continues. This one was even better than the first one in the series. There are themes of rape and violence but at its core this is a story of survival. The dynamic of our couple is interesting and fun to follow as their relationship develops. Hopefully someone hurts Mandy. Because she is a bitch!

Guys, I'm so happy to have discovered this author! I love alien romance books and this one, just like the first, is everything that I look for. It's not an easy romance, but it is one with heart and soul and all that alien goodness. And I was really happy to see that this one was much cleaner editing wise. That detracted a teensy little bit from the last story. I'm now officially a fan!
