A delightful fun and magical book about a boy named Warren the 13th and the hotel his family runs. I had so much fun reading this one~

I have had this book on my Want-To-Read shelves for a while now and finally decided to just buy it! And then of course I had to read it as soon as I could because it was calling me. I was in for a book featuring mystery, fantasy. This book was a big surprise, a good surprise, and now I definitely want more. Sadly, Amazon doesn’t have the second book in stock (what is new given how they are the past year), but hopefully one day I can read it further.

Meet Warren, or Warren the 13th. The 13th Warren in a long line of great men who run a fabulous hotel. Sadly, Warren’s father died and since he was too young to run the hotel his uncle does it for him… well, we quickly see that the uncle is just useless. He would rather laze around, calls Warren if he has lost something or wants something, and so on. I felt for Warren. He has no parents, a useless uncle, a mean aunt, and oh yes, the gorgeous hotel? It is in shambles. Yes, Warren tries his hardest to keep everything as tidy as he can, repair things left and right, but he is so young and so tiny, he cannot do everything. I loved that Warren never gave up. Even when the story later gets more scary and hairier and stranger. He keeps on going. He is dedicated to this lineage and the hotel. Many kids would have given up but not Warren.

There are also other characters and I wasn’t always a fan of them! But that is logical, some of these are villains (the aunt was definitely the worst, what a character). Petula took a bit to get used to, I knew what/who she was and so I couldn’t trust her easily. But there are twists to her character that I hadn’t seen coming and I love it. I also really like the people who still work at the hotel, like the cook who always made sure that Warren got some good food in him and also donated plenty of cookies (which I desperately want to try) to him.

The All-Seeing Eye is the big focal point in the book. What it is? No one knows. Not even Warren as his parents died too young to tell him. I had fun going along on the hunt for the Eye and I was HIGHLY curious as to what the eye was. Would it be a gem? A jewel? Another kind of treasure? Something more sentimental? I was eager to find out and I loved the hints we got. I do have to say I was utterly surprised at to what it was in the end! I definitely hadn’t expected something called that to be that. WOW.

The whole book also reminded me of The Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. The style of writing, the characters, the strangeness of it all. I LOVE it.

The art is fantastic and all adds to the atmosphere of the book and the mysteriousness of it all.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book to all. This was fantastic and I just flew right through it. Magic, villains, and so much more.

Witches, magic, secrets codes, monsters and mazes... Warren the 13th and The All-Seeing Eye gives you all of this and much much more!

Let us begin with an introduction, Warren the 13th is the only surviving member of a long line of Warren's who have built and established the Warren Hotel. He is a strange looking child, with a toad like face, gray skin, crooked teeth and a head of luxurious locks. After his father's death, the Warren Hotel with lazy uncle Rupert in charge is run to the ground and ends up looking more like a haunted house than a hotel. And when Uncle Rupert marries Anaconda things go from bad to worse. With a hotel to look after, a sudden influx of greedy hotel guests and an evil aunt intent on finding the elusive All-Seeing-Eye, Warren is rushed off his feet and at the same time, desperate to decipher the codes and find the treasure first. Join Warren on his journey and try to unravel the mysteries with him!

Aunt Anaconda is an evil villain, one that could rival Dolores Umbridge, the White Witch and Miss Trunchbull; dark and dangerous, with just one thing on her mind, finding the All-Seeing Eye, would you dare to contradict her and suffer the consequences?

I love Warren the 13th and The All-Seeing Eye, the story kept me guessing, and the clues and secret codes tested my imagination and knowledge. The faster the story raced ahead, the faster my heart raced too. Beautifully written, the two column Victorian design suited the tale perfectly.

Now to the illustrations! Will Staehle weaves his magic through the book, with gorgeous and detailed pictures adorning each page. Through the inspiring artwork I saw Aunt Anaconda slither off the page and felt her darkness as it surrounded me, cloaking me in fear and despair. Warren and his determination jumped straight into my heart and filled me with a sense of adventure and courage. Mr Staehle's talented drawings brings each and every character to life!

This books is a must read for children and adults alike. If you have a sense of adventure and wonder, then please pick up a copy and meet Warren for yourself.

I received a copy of Warren the 13th and The All-Seeing Eye from the publishers in return for an honest review.

'Warren the 13th and the All-Seeing Eye' by Tania del Rio with illustrations by Will Staehle is a fabulously upbeat kids book about a character who seems to be living what could be a pretty dreary existence.

Warren is the 13th Warren and his long line of ancestors who have owned and run a hotel. Warren is not old enough to run it by himself, so it is run by his perpetually lazy Uncle Rupert and Rupert's scheming wife Annaconda. In typical put upon fashion, Warren is made to do all the work, which he cheerfully does. He cleans the rooms, does the repairs and acts as a bellhop for guests. The hotel is mostly empty, but Warren has friends, like the chef in the kitchen who gives him food to eat besides the porridge that his Aunt insists he have for every meal. There is also a kindly old explorer who lives in the hotel's library.

When Annaconda learns that there may be a treasure in the hotel, she sets out to tear the place apart to find it. Word spreads and soon the hotel is full of mostly unpleasant guests seeking their fortune. Warren is kept busy, but also looks into the mystery. Along the way, he makes new friends like Captain Grayishwhiteish beard who is a suspiciously piratical sea captain, Sketchy, a tentacled creature living in the boiler room and Petula who seems to have some interesting secrets.

The book had just the right amount of gloom and despair, but Warren is the light at the heart of the story. He is not victim. He is a good-hearted soul and that makes him so likeable. I loved the story and the characters I met in it, especially Warren. I loved the illustrations and clever typeset. Recommended for fans of Lemony Snicket, like me.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Quirk Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

This was unexpectedly good. And yet those monochromatic illustrations, it is so nice. I enjoyed the story as well, small Warren trying to take care about the whole hotel Warren and very adventurous small detective story behind it. I would recommend Warren not only to small children but also to those adults who like some good quality stories.

A fun read with compelling illustrations. A cousin to Lemony Snicket but with magic. The denouement fizzled for me a bit, but not enough to ruin anything.

I have never heard of these books before. Yet, now that I have discovered this series, I am in for all of the adventures with Warren. Warren is odd-ball but for all of the outcasts in the world, he is the likable hero. Plus, he is smart and everyone he meets (for the most part) does like him. Although, Warren is not the only other person that I enjoyed meeting in this book. There is Petula, Sketchy, Mr. Friggs, Beatrice, Rupert, and Chef Bunion.

I tried to figure out the mystery surrounding the All-Seeing Eye but I had no clue. Not that I was trying too hard to solve the mystery. I was really just along for the journey and fun. My nephews will enjoy meeting Warren as I have. The best part is that they can read this book on their own. The illustrations help to really bring this story to life. Warren the 13th and The All-Seeing Eye is an enjoyable read for the whole family. I will be picking up the next book in this series.

Happy Friday the 13th! If you are looking for a quick, delightful read to get you in the right mood for this superstitious day, then this may be the book for you. In this book, we meet Warren, the groundskeeper of a mansion. The book allows us to follow along with Warren as he goes on adventure to solve the clues.

I enjoyed the plot of this book. It was interesting and engaging. However, what I enjoyed most about this book was the illustrations. I had this book in e-format, but I can only imagine what they look like in print.

The story was entertaining and I am glad that I had a chance to pick this one up. If you are looking for a quirky story, check this one out. Plus the second one in series is out in March, so you won't have to wait much longer! :)
