3.5 stars. I love Joanna Shupe’s work, and I think the Uptown Girls series was her best yet. But this book was just meh for me. The story felt disjointed; plot threads were introduced then dropped. There were many characters, some of whom seemed to have secrets of their own, and they took away from the main plot (example: Nellie and the Duke). I know characters and subplots were being put into play for the rest of the series, but it was too much for one book.

Just okay story and ship, whole time I was thinking Kit is way more interesting.

It's rare when I think both the hero and the heroine are too immature to be together, but Harrison and Maddie really are that couple you hope is going to break up next week. I'm not generally a fan of childhood friends to lovers and that dislike was only furthered by Harrison's horrible, slimy attitude toward getting anything he wanted, damn the consequences. Maddie is an okay character, but lacks any real communication skills or ability to go head to head with Harrison.

Was in a rut and needed something light. Uhmm all i can think about is the Contrapoints’ Twilight video to justify this romance. Wouldn’t necessarily say i enjoyed it (just blehh imo, ive read better problematic chemistry) but yah had to remind myself of the…point of the genre.

I've been meaning to read this series for a while and started with the audiobooks because spotify had them available. I had a great time listening to this first book and the only reason why im giving it 4.5 stats its because I was very annoyed with both of the main characters during a good chunk of the book otherwise its a good read and I will continue to listen to the other books.

A solid 4 star read for me. I love that Maddie is actually a very accomplished tennis player during a time when not many women were serious athletes. I love the scenes in Newport and all the detailed description of the mansions during the Gilded Age. As always, Joanna Shupe is a favorite for strong character with well researched history setting of the Gilded Age of New York society. Joanna will continue to be an auto buy for me.
