Y'all, there's nothing objectively wrong with this book but the Hero was being high-handed and I could see the third act drama coming and was just not here for it.

I know they'll make it to an HEA because it's Romance and I'm not really invested enough to keep reading so I'll imagine them happy together and skip to a book in more interested in.

Let's begin by saying this book held a lot of promise at the beginning. The hero, Harrison Archer, left the country 3 years ago, because he overheard that the heroine, Maddie did not see him as more than a brother. Childhood friends with a PINING HERO. Two of my three favorite tropes.

There was so much pine in the beginning. Then there's a scandal, and Harrison and Maddie are forced to get married, and the book falls off the rails.

There was so much unneeded external conflict the last third of the book. Plus Maddie was so wishy-washy. All this basically made it a struggle to finish the book. At the same time, I'm looking forward to reading the next books in the series, as Shupe. *Edited* as I just found the synopsis for book 2. While the hero is Kit, the heroine is not who I expected it to be. Also, Lockwood needs his own story.

So much going on that I forgot that at the beginning it's as though Harrison has ADHD, but it's never really mentioned again. Unclear if it's a young boy not being able to focus and something he grew out of when he became older, or if Shupe decided to drop that characteristic
