This book is full of fascinating workplace and wellness psychology experiments with clear details about their intent and results. It was somewhat of an ad for working at Google due to their culture achievements and high standards of proof. Granted, I think some of their recommendations work mainly in a hyper-achieving and hyper-educated tech environment, but there are still some great nuggets of wisdom in there that could be widely applicable (in my limited experience).

Some notes I took while listening:
- Only hire people better than you in some meaningful way.
- Given limited resources, invest in recruiting, not training.
- Split reward conversations from development conversations.
- Celebrate accomplishment, not compensation.

Focus on the two tails of the performance distribution:
- There is a power law distribution of performance (especially in fields like engineering). If someone is 100x more productive, pay them significantly more, and be transparent as to why/how productivity is measured so others can improve.
- For poor performers, tell them, and probably move them, since Google often hires smart generalists but they don't always fit for the specific role. It's better to be transparent than have them find out during a downturn before they are let go. Still, that sounds like a tough conversation to have.

If you can read through the frequent cheerleading for Google there's a lot here to like. Many of the company's management philosophies are already well publicized, but Bock explains more about the why and how than you'd find in a short form article. There are plenty of practical tips here, and enough detail to help guide you in implementation. Whether or not you believe Google has the world's greatest HR practices, this is a book every HR team and small business owner should read.

This book easily became one of my go-to leadership and culture books for both my professional and personal life. Laszlo Bock presents his ideas and Google's concepts for leading people in a dynamic environment clearly and in a way that you can begin to implement immediately. There are multiple concepts that could be utilized in any type of work environment - not just an organization with an innovative mission. I have already read this book twice and I will definitely read it over and over again.

Sumamente interesante. Un imprescindible para los interesados en la gestión humana. Lo recomiendo ampliamente. Es largo, pero no tiene desperdicio. También lo recomiendo para quienes gestionan equipos y tienen personal a cargo.

Another required reading for work. Not a bad book, just not as exciting as my personal reads

Incredibly insightful and easy to read. Laszlo has a talent for connecting with the readers, providing valid information and adding humor into text.
