I found this book the other day and realized if I waited 4 hours to meet this man back in 2016, I really should read this. I remember trying a few times when I was younger, but all I cared about was Twilight and the Hunger Games.

This book is based on Tyler Oakley’s life and the lessons that he has learnt along the way. These are the stories of personal mishaps and shenanigans including a legitimate rage blackout in a Cheesecake factory, negotiating a tense standoff with a White House official and crashing a car in front of his entire high school. This is the story on how Tyler Oakley made his way to YouTube and how he relates to his millions of viewers every week.

Tyler has a way with words in this book that it makes you feel like you haven’t seen him in a year, and you are just two friends playing catch up. He has a way of making it feel like you’ve known him for years and he seems authentic within this book. My favourite chapter within this book was his obsession with One Direction and how he had to stand up for himself after Liam agreed with something homophobic. I loved how he discovered One Direction. As a British person who was obsessed with X-Factor and we watched them grow, I loved seeing the perspective of Tyler finding One Direction whilst getting ready for a night out. I just loved it. Tyler was one of the YouTubers that could make you laugh and give you great advice and just felt like they weren’t putting on a persona compared to the others online.

I really like reading this book and it shows that even celebrities who job is to be a content creator has the same insecurities as me. I would recommend this book to anyone that is a Tyler Oakley fan and wants to learn more about him as it is interesting. However, I do believe, like most YouTubers who wrote a book in the last decade, he wrote this book too early in his career as he was only young at the time but hopefully, he will write another one soon with more about what he has been doing with his life after YouTube.
