Frank Avellino was found brutally murdered in his home by both of his daughters. The 911 calls were 1 minute apart, with both sisters accusing the other of his murder. Eddie Flynn is back to take the stand and defend his client. The only problem is determining which client he wants to take on. Eddie only defends the ones he believes are innocent, and this case is a close call through and through.
This is my second Eddie Flynn book, and reigns as my favorite. This story gripped me from the beginning with the 911 call transcripts. I felt like I knew where the story would go, but Steve had a few twists and turns I didn’t expect. The chapter that included multiple POVs had me on the edge of my seat. I also enjoyed reading the back stories of some of Eddie’s team that we met in Witness 8, since this one was set prior. I could not put this one down and it’s definitely one of my favorite series like this. And if you all like this, you KNOW how I feel about his other book Kill For Me, Kill For You!! A fave. Check that one out too.
Another winner! This was my first Eddie Flynn novel so it’s completely possible to read this as a stand-alone.

Sofia and Alexandra are estranged (and very different) sisters on trial for the murder of their father - both saying the other did it. We know one did, but which? Eddie and Kate each take a sister as their client and are working hard behind the scenes to prove the other did it - but, both are adamant their client is innocent.
This book actually had me wondering and guessing for a while who did it! I could see either way and changed my mind often. I loved the multiple POV, including the "She" which was the sister that was the killer. It had me hooked and I was excited to see how it all turned out. I know this is part of a series (but, standalone) and may read others. It reminds me a lot of The Lincoln Lawyer!

Fifty-Fifty by Steve Cavanaugh is the ffith book of the Eddie Flynn series, but the first in this series that I have read. When I saw the premise for this one – two sisters, each accusing the other of murdering their dad – I had to know who did it! Since I enjoyed Cavanaugh’s stand-alone thriller, Kill For Me, Kill for you, I’ve wanted to check out his Eddie Flynn series. I don’t love a series generally, because I am such a mood reader and I want to switch up my genres frequently, but when I saw a short video by the author where he expressed that he’s written this series so the reader can jump in anywhere, that’s exactly what I did.
I immediately understood why readers enjoy this series so much. Eddie Flynn, a defense attorney is a flawed but lovable character. Add in equally flawed and easily likeable side characters, an adorable stray dog who loves a good belly scratch, and of course sinister and evil suspects and law enforcement, there was a lot in Fifty-Fifty to make this book unputdownable.
Cavanaugh does not hold back when it comes to violence and body horror, so if you are a sensitive reader, please proceed with caution. If you are looking for a fast-past, edge-of-your-seat thriller/mystery/suspense/court room drama, definitely give Fifty-Fifty a try. I do recommend going in blind to this one, in order to really immerse yourself into the suspense.
Now I need to decide which Eddie Flynn to read next! Any suggestions?

Another thriller, another three star rating, I read this as a standalone even though it's number five in a series, I didn't feel lost at any point, I assume it's a different case/plot every book just following the same main man.
I was flipping back and forward from a three star so much in this book. I thought it was written really well, this is not this author's first rodeo that's for sure, the suspense was pretty suspenseful and the court room element was so good. Having said that it didn't do a great deal to stand above the crowd.
I think a sister vs sister killer was a genius idea but it didn't go far enough, I think if we got to know even more about these sister's childhoods it might have worked better. This book would have benefited from duel timeline as well as multiple POV's. I did really like the 'she' POV I think it gave us some depth.
This is a more far-fetched thriller too, don't expect a real feeling court drama or serial killer, the things the killer gets away with felt a little silly at times. Although this might not have been a favourite for me, if your looking for a quick thriller with a few twists and turns it really isn't a bad one. I would read more from this author, I might not seek him out, but if I saw a book with the right plot and price I would go for it.

If you're looking for a tidy courtroom thriller that keeps you guessing, then this is for you!
Note that I read this as a standalone. I do think that reading this as part of the series would provide more character depth.

I think I am too used to decent writing, even in thrillers that are meant to be the book equivalent of snack foods. Pass on the absolutely atrocious metaphors.
