I read somewhere that this is a winter read and in New Zealand it’s currently winter. I honestly enjoyed this read .The dark element are dark not Disney dark and yet it’s littered with elements from fairytales. While a Fae Y/A book , I wouldn’t recommend it for fans of ACOTAR. They are on completely opposite sides of the fae/fantasy spectrum. The main focus  of relationships in this books is the brothers  not the periphal love interest. I also love that the illness journey was something they did as a team rather than leaving the brother to face it alone.
I do think this is a book I would  have loved in middle grade.
I really liked that the illness journey was something all the characters went on together instead of the one character needing to do it on their own.

At the beginning, I thought the events were just dragging along. It didn't seem that interesting. There was lots of detail put into the language and description but I found myself re-reading pages to understand what was going on. It was not until halfway through, I began to get into the story.

Things actually started happening. I guess I was just confused at the beginning because of the flashbacks.

When the time came, I anticipated the climax of the story, which was the battle. I was sorely disappointed because I was expecting more action and questioned the way the release of the Dark Fairy ceased the fighting.

Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this novel as it was featured a really unusual, creative and continuously twisting plot which left me craving for more when I reached the very last page.

I had fun with the audio book. I have some problems with listening to audio books since I have a quite short attention span. But the style in which Lionel Wigram is reading is mesmerizing and I really loved listening to him.

I loved how this book focuses on the familial relationship the most. I didn't like the love triangle that was introduced? Curious to see if that gets taken further in the next books? I won't be reading those next, but in the near future hopefully.

Not invested in the characters as we know nothing about them.

It feels like when you start book 2 in a series and they do a brief over view of what happened previously to bring you back up to speed, but we never got the world or character building . I gave it a good try at 209 pages but found myself just wanting to read something else .

I'm going stop here at page 43 and pick it up again.
I'm not in the mood for a 350+ paged book and it feels
like a Winter read to me, so I'm going to pick it up in November or December.
I do like it so I know I'll read it this year. :)
