The intrigue of what’s going on behind this cult thing is actually great built. Kate is the best detective of course, she has no problem admitting her weaknesses and mistakes which makes her aware of herself and it’s easier to work through it to become better. Gotta love her positivity, the way she doesn’t give up.

When you've still got a comic on your pull list, so you're pretty much obligated to read.

This just isn't my Kate, ya'll.

Onto issue #3 now, and I'm finding Kate Bishop genuinely enjoyable. She's still wisecracking a lot, which is not generally my favourite character trait, but it seems, from this issue anyway, that her humour is often a way of navigating the fact that a lot of the time she's fumbling around without a clue. She's clearly more amateur than professional in some of her decisions here - checking behind all of the doors is the most entertaining example, as she mistakenly bursts in on people having sex, or on the loo, and is utterly mortified - and I'm good with that. It makes her seem more approachable, especially as I'm new to the character. If she's still so new at this, then I feel as if I haven't missed that much in her evolution... which may be totally wrong, but it does increase the impression of accessibility that this series is giving me.

Somehow I missed the Felicity Smoak of it all the first few issues. Anyway, really well-written. Smart moment in the art. Going to try like hell to get through the series in time for West Coast Avengers.

10 Reasons to Love Hawkeye #3

1. Intrigue, intrigue. A mob, an undercover detective, and mind control? Sign me up!

2. Kate Bishop's sass is alive and well. She is totally Hawkeye in every sense of the word.

3. The reappearance of Johnny, who I have a feeling will be a reoccurring character (and maybe a possible love interest?). They certainly have enough chemistry. Even Ramona knows.

4. "Please kill me now. It's a full-on Scooby Gang situation." Kate might hate it, but it is exactly what I was hoping for. Also, their simultaneous no when she asks them to go home.

5. Ramone. I love her hair, her attitude, and the fact that she needs a warning from Kate not to hit anyone.

6. Kate knowing her weakness is cute frat guys and also being completely unimpressed by their douchiness. We've all been there, girl.

7. Can we talk about how fabulous Kate's Hawkeye costume is in this series? Because I think we should. I can't wait to see people cosplaying as her more now.

8. The panels of comedy aka Kate trying out a million different doors with varying (hilarious results).

9. The super-obvious literary metaphor that ends up being the entrance to the secret lair. It's so obvious, and I really believe a secret villain would go there.

10. I know we all complain about cliffhangers, but don't we also kind of love them? It keeps you in suspense for the next issue. Who would want to read a comic that doesn't keep them guessing? Not me.
