This book is four books in one! There are so many storylines, characters and POVs that it becomes an exhaustive read by the mid point. I wish that Lisa had picked three characters and their storylines and really ran with it.
I love a slow burn but by 51% of the book, nothing of consequence has happened and a lot of it is repetitive, especially Adele wondering how she didn’t see her husband for the con he was.
Then FINALLY something big happens and that has nothing to do with pretty much the first half of the book. Then new plot points appear and climaxes into a cliched mess with a hail marry attempt to tie in to the plot line that had been introduced in the beginning of the book.
Ahhh I’m so frustrated!
Thank-you NetGalley for sending me an advance readers copy in exchange for my honest opinion. I wish it was a better one.

The writing wasn’t bad, and it was certainly a page-turner.
But the characters were just awful. Again, not underdeveloped or even badly written, but it was like the author was trying to get us to sympathize with some truly awful people. Kind of had the energy of a mom who keeps apologizing for her son that goes around abusing people.
The plot moved fast, but kept coming to obvious conclusions. What’s in the duffel bags? Lots of money. Where’s the missing husband? Definitely will make an underwhelming appearance by the end. How not surprising at all to see Chloe step out of the shadows at the end, since the book has clearly cast her as a crazy ex girlfriend mastermind. It still held my interest all the way through, just left me disappointed.
