⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4-Star Review for Close Your Eyes and Count to Ten by Lisa Unger

Lisa Unger once again delivers a gripping psychological thriller with Close Your Eyes and Count to Ten. From the very first chapter, the tension is palpable, and the sense of unease builds with every twist and turn. Unger does a masterful job of pulling readers into a dark, unsettling atmosphere that keeps you questioning what’s real and who can be trusted.

The main character is complex and layered, haunted by trauma and desperately searching for the truth. As her past collides with the present, the story takes on a dreamlike, almost surreal quality at times, blurring the lines between memory and reality. Unger’s writing style is immersive, and the emotional depth she gives her characters adds a rich layer to the suspense.

While some plot points felt a bit too convenient or familiar if you’re a seasoned thriller reader, the emotional stakes and haunting tone more than make up for it. The ending delivers a satisfying punch, tying things together without being overly neat.

Overall, Close Your Eyes and Count to Ten is a chilling, emotionally-charged thriller that lingers long after the final page. Perfect for fans of psychological suspense who love stories that explore the darker corners of the mind.

Fun read! Has tinges of Mr. Beast and I enjoyed thinking about the story from the perspective of a mom and the perspective of someone who is perpetually online (even without being an influencer). Good mystery, good ending, and overall a satisfying story.

I love the concept of extreme hide and seek. I loved playing this game as a kid and it’s something I would totally do. Minus all the craziness that ensues. The setting of an isolated island and crumbling ruins of a once luxurious hotel adds to the eeriness. You just know that something is gonna go wrong. A little predictable, overall and enjoyable read.

Close Your Eyes and Count to 10 is Lisa Unger’s latest thrilling release. I really enjoyed the high stakes tension that this one brought and the fact that she wrote this book around a game of hide-and-seek was such a fun concept. Who hasn’t played that game at some point in their life? I also loved the idea that this was a social media competition. I love competition shows in general so reading something similar in a book is always a good time. However, keeping everyone’s storylines together was difficult for me. There’s just too much going on with each character that I had a hard time keeping track. If I don’t know who I’m reading about right away it takes away my enjoyment because I feel like I need to take notes and that’s just not something I want to do when reading. Aside from that, this is a really quick and easy read. Fun for those who like an isolated setting where characters are stranded and there’s something strange going on.
