Things are looking bleak for Darren and his friends-pursued by the police, vigilante mobs and the enemy vampaneze, they still have to find the King of the Vampaneze and destroy him to save the vampire race.

I like the Saga books but I felt it has been obvious for several books now who the King of the Vampaneze is so the big reveal at the end of this book did fall a bit flat for me.However on the plus side this episode has great action and a racing plotline that keeps you interested and is one of my favourites so far. They go from one crisis to the next and I really enjoyed it.

Mr Crepsley...NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Oh [a:Darren Shan|5816|Darren Shan|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1192947698p2/5816.jpg] how you break my heart with these books! Even though I thought I was prepared for the series to end, even knowing the plight of the hero... I was still not ready for this book!

Summary: Outnumbered, outsmarted and desperate, the hunters are on the run, pursued by the vampaneze, the police, and an angry mob. With their enemies clamoring for blood, the vampires prepare for a deadly battle. Is this the end for Darren and his allies?

What I liked about this book: SPOILER ALERT: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES. DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW. I had to put this one down just as I realized what the end of this book would hold just as I put [b:Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince|1|Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6)|J.K. Rowling|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1255614960s/1.jpg|2962987] down as it became evident that Harry would finish his journey without Dumbledore. While [a:Darren Shan|5816|Darren Shan|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1192947698p2/5816.jpg]'s characters don't ingrain themselves into my psyche as much as [a:J.K. Rowling|1077326|J.K. Rowling|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1257047387p2/1077326.jpg]'s do, they still come to life in that way that you root for them, suffer with them and feel yourself drawn to them in the way only a good author can do.

Losing loved ones is expected in a vampire book. The sheer fact that as a vampire you outlive those you love is, in and of itself, a prophetic fact to that loss. But losing a mentor, losing that being who charts you on the path and becomes more than a teacher and a guide, becomes the father-figure, the best friend and confidante every hero needs, is much more tragic. You feel it deep in your heart and watching Larten Crepsley fall made it very difficult for me to devour this book.

[a:Darren Shan|5816|Darren Shan|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1192947698p2/5816.jpg] has an ability to make you feel what his main character feels in such a battle-torn way that you not only feel the toll of the battle on your soul, you feel its repercussions for a long time. I may need some time to recoup before diving into the last three books.

I'm re-reading the series and have (perhaps unfairly) been rating all the books five stars as they install such evocative nostalgic memories in me. But I can't do it for this book. This is, for me, the worst book in the series
as a Larten girlie, him dying (though I knew it was always in the cards, even when I read this as a child,) broke me terribly Gosh he was one of my favourite characters.

Loved this one, the twists and turns, the questions. It had me on the edge of my seat. Id guessed a twist a few books back and by this book had managed to completely talk myself out of it only to find out I was right in the first place. This book definitely keeps you guessing.

Okay, i can now say this trilogy sucks.

Book #7 is bad when compared to book #4, 5 and 6. Yet it is still so so much better than #8 and 9. The whole trilogy plays out like a joke. I feel as if I’m reading some weird stories written by a highschooler.

The storytelling is bad and inconsistent. The plot is mediocre. Even the twists (if you want to call them that) are easily predictable. Also, it feels like these ‘twists’ are crammed into the plot just for the sake of surprise element.

And finally, there is absolutely not one ounce of logic in this book. I am effing tired of the whole Mr-Desmond-Tiny-told-me-this-so-I-must-abide shit. Omg can’t the characters for once take matters into their own hands? Zero character development.

I sincerely hope the last trilogy would be better than this.
