4.5/5 stars!!

Absolutely adored this
medium-paced

I enjoyed the series mostly despite or maybe because I wasn’t expecting much. It had all the components and it covered a multitude of issues pretty well but 4 books was excessive. It feels like a case of a really good writer not spending as much time and energy as they could have, using lots of sex as a motivator/ filler. Easy to criticize of course, writing is hard! I find KAT hit or miss sometimes but even the ones I dont like have great characters or concepts.

I liked the uniqueness of some of the characters and how developed they were. It makes such a difference when secondary characters exist in their own right rather than as props for the MCs. They were integral to understanding Abbi and Henry and their growth—Abbi’s very Christian family and community vs Henrys decadent, rich, ambitious family and world. Abbi’s mother was quite the character and her ex-boyfriend was pretty well developed. Henry’s family was a little more cliche and cookie cutter but there was still enough there. Abbi and henry’s relationship was really interesting but would have been so much better with more development. it’s her integrity and honesty (and humor) vying with her incredible attraction to him that really turned him on but there needed to be more of a bond before they split up to make us understand why he would stay faithful once she’s back in Penn. (suspend youre disbelief!) The plot was weak but still worked. Book 3 is the weakest but ultimately I liked how it ended. Like many, I was kind of rooting for Ronan and while I saw why KAT would want to develop that dynamic, that last scene didn’t feel quite right. I would love a book about Ronan that took place after that scene instead of one before Alaska even takes place.
