I loved Cassandra. I knew who she was from the start, so I was surprised that she was unaware. I definitely loved her character growth and watching the story progress just from minor changes. But not gonna lie, I yelled when it ended because the ending was...lame. Could've done without that ending, otherwise I loved it.
Glad I stuck it out - there was a part early on where I was thinking about how much I disliked Cassandra, which is rough when she's the MC and narrator. Luckily it matured and deepened.
"Cassandra in Reverse" is a captivating and heartwarming tale of self-discovery and acceptance with time travel as a unique backdrop. The novel follows Cassandra Penelope Dankworth, a neurodivergent protagonist who faces challenges in fitting in and finding acceptance. After a series of setbacks, Cassandra discovers her ability to go back in time and tries to fix her mistakes, particularly in her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Will.
The book is a pleasant surprise, exceeding expectations beyond its initial appearance as a mere romance novel. As the story progresses, Cassandra's character evolves from initially unlikable to endearing, as readers empathize with her struggles with social cues and literal interpretations. The skillful handling of time travel mechanics allows the focus to be on Cassandra's personal growth rather than complex sci-fi elements. Moreover, the incorporation of Greek mythology adds depth to the narrative, as Cassandra's journey parallels the odyssey of Odysseus or Sisyphus. "Cassandra In Reverse" offers a fresh perspective on time travel and a touching exploration of self-discovery, making it a recommended read for those who appreciate well-written contemporary fiction with unique characters and a touch of mythology.

This book was so much more than I expected! I thought it would be a romcom, but it wasn’t really. I really liked getting to know Cassandra and seeing how she navigates the world around her and learns from each interaction. I thought it was a pretty good portrayal of how neurodivergent people see the world and a reminder to lead with kindness. As someone who learned she was neurodivergent in her mid-forties, I could relate to Cassie’s bewilderment about why she’s having such a hard time when everyone else seems to have it all figured out and the feeling of things clicking into place once you learn your brain is wired differently. I’m sure any of us who struggle with social interactions would love to be able to rewind and try again and I really liked how each wrong try taught Cassie something. I would love a sequel!

Cassandra’s boyfriend of four months (her longest relationship ever) breaks up with her in the morning, and by lunch she’s fired from her job. Then Will shows up like nothing has happened—and breaks up with her all over again.
When Cassie realizes she has the ability to travel through time, she tries to go back and fix things with Will, with her roommates, with her job. But time travel is exhausting, and while she manages to fix some things, she also creates new mistakes.
This novel is a lot fun. NetGalley provided an advance reader copy of this book, which RELEASES MAY 9, 2023.

Cassandra in Reverse follows cassandra, a neurodivergent woman in her 30’s, through the worst day of her life… her boyfriend leaves her, she gets fired from her job, her flatmates dislike her, and her regular coffee stop is out of banana muffins. she also discovers her ability to go back in time.
i think time travel plots stress me out. but i would also go back in time and mess it up every time, or use it for the slightest inconvenience. so it’s okay.
overall, i thought this was a cute read. i loved the tie-ins to greek mythology, and i loved the exploration of cassandra’s character. the author was also diagnosed autistic later on in life, so this feels like a personal story with a lot of passion and love put behind it, and you can feel it.
(i also love the myth of cassandra so bonus points…)
