It took me a couple of times to start this book, and about a quarter of the way in, I almost stopped reading. However, it grew on me, and I actually enjoyed the twists and resolutions.
The characterizations in the first third of the book were too over the top, and it could’ve been a bit subtler. Also I hate a third act break-up, and you could see it coming a mile a way.
Overall, I thought the world building was interesting though, and I was impressed with the author’s ability to provide in-depth lore while also wrapping it up in one self-contained book. For a fantasy romance, it was quite different in setting, and I liked that.

This one was pretty good. It was a bit of a different setting/premise which I enjoyed. It reminded me a little bit of Divine Rivals, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It was quirky and I liked the family dynamics but also predictable. An enjoyable audiobook to listen to in the car but didn’t make me feel overly emotional since it felt like the whole thing was just about mis- (or lack of) communication. We didn’t get to know too much about tho r characters but they did develop somewhat. I was honestly wondering about half way through how they were going to make it stretch another half way through. The whole mystery part of it kinda got glossed over I feel like.
