What a drag. Persephone's trial has been built up for ages now and it only just barely starts in the second half of this volume. Before then, it's seemingly endless filler and side tangents that are stretched out to be much longer than necessary. Many scenes could be cut out altogether and the important ones are still needlessly lengthened for padding's sake.

Can we talk about Artemis? This poor girl has spent most of this comic being manipulated and lied to by everyone around her. Her abusive mother, her deceptive brother, her unreliable friends, and her self-absorbed roommate. Basically everyone she knows and talks to regularly. Despite Artemis' emotional pain being treated as dramatic, her character isn't given any real respect by the narrative.
Persephone's lies go unaddressed because they aren't affecting her personally. Despite repeatedly saying she'll tell Artemis the truth, she ultimately never does in this volume purely due to negligence.
As a rape victim, Persephone isn't in the wrong for not wanting to talk about it.
It's a different story for her to continuously promise to do so and simply forget because Artemis' pain isn't important to her or on her mind. And no one else will say anything because they don't want to disrespect Persephone. Artemis has been willfully left in the dark and made vulnerable to her abusive family.

It's an unfair situation but the story is unwilling to call out the alleged good guys for their parts to play in her suffering.

Then we have Minthe. Again with her pain being viewed as a joke. Minthe's assault and paralysis is glossed over by everyone but her two friends and their own concern is essentially mocked. Persephone downplays her crimes against the nymph and Minthe's very existence being proof of how unstable and dangerous Persephone is is considered a slanderous take. It's not. The antagonists are right. Persephone sucks and she's a danger to everyone.

Hades only disagrees because he's her sugar daddy.

Demeter, Persephone's own mother, has gone forgotten by her daughter for almost the entire comic except when she needs to be portrayed as abusive. These two have not interacted outside of flashbacks until this volume and the level of nonchalance Persephone views their relationship with is absurd. Demeter is villainized to make Hades look better.
For a modern feminist retelling that's decidedly not feminist.

Hades and Persephone's romance is sweet at times but whatever appeal they have is overshadowed by every other plot element in the narrative. Most characters are reprehensible and impossible to root for, while the few sympathetic ones are ignored when they're not convenient. When it's not overtly annoying to read, the comic is boring.
