I was enjoying myself up until the ending… I might reevaluate it when the next book comes out, but for now it’ll only be what it is now.

Soooo, when is the second book being released??

The overall tone of this book was not what I expected. I expected a more dark and serious tone throughout, but it was often very light and humorous.
primarily due to the lovable comedy relief gargoyle
some things were predictable but still enjoyable
benji you bitch. I knew what you were going to do but i hoped you wouldnt

I read about half of the book then did the audiobook for the rest since I borrowed from lobby. The narrator takes a bit to get used to. I think she is better suited to higher fantasy because sone of the comedic bits fell flat with her tone.

The twists in the last like hour or so were great.
the fact that Bartholomew was the gargoyles name the whole time was great. This whole time im wondering why they dont give him a name, why do we just say gargoyle. Not once did i think lol what if bartholomew is HIS name. Felt like a real Hodor moment.

Overall the world building was fine, but I feel like there were frequent instances of being told things vs shown. I also wished there was a bit less comedy at times, it felt like some moments didn't get enough attention before we were dragged away by a little quip of some kind.

Overall really enjoyed. I almost didn't even read it because its been getting so much attention.

also i hope in the next book we team up with the sprites and overthrow bitch ass Benji

Felt like an old fairytale with modern characters. A bit slow at times but loved it and felt really immersed in the story

These characters. You come to love and hate them. Gillig really writes characters well. Bartholomew was the best character- holding the others together, as well as providing comic relief. Please tell me there will be another book and that was not the ending. It was not a cliff hanger- but it was certainly realistic and sad.
