Preferred the film, writing was a bit hard to get into

Too many words and too many thoughts I didn’t want to think or visualize. Boring overwrought and unending. Dystopian malarkey.
mysterious tense medium-paced

at first i wasn’t sure if i was connecting with alam’s writing style but as i continued i was amazed by this little bubble these characters were existing in (ps ruth sucks)

I just couldn’t deal with the writing

I heard the movie adaptation was great and this book was a best seller so I was excited to get it. There were moments of “that’s weird/whats going to happen” but the writing was bland to me, the thrill was limited, and the parts about their teenage son m@sterbating (“shooting ropes”) and his “balls sticking to his leg”… why? Adds nothing. Some interesting bits and lots of potential to be more, but not worth the hype.

Read this book while living in the middle of the woods at summer camp with no cell service which tbh really added to the vibe

This was very vague but it still had a sense of dread building. The writing just felt really weird and there were lots of strange sexual descriptions. Plus it doesn’t feel like there was much of a point
