The premise of the book was an interesting concept, both in the new social etiquette of AirBnB and in how the characters navigate crisis. Learning little by little about the situation was rewarding, but the pacing of the book felt irregular, and the language used could be a bit flowery and grotesque without serving the story overall. Just as I felt the book was really going somewhere, it ended abruptly. The main characters were meant to be multidimensional, but they ended up becoming annoying and frustrating. That being said, Alam is clearly well read and talented, and I would be willing to read other work of his.

I understand that the point of this book was to be understated and quiet, a feeling of foreboding. A darkness creeping up on you, but I did not enjoy this book. I did not like the writing, it was trying to have this high literary prose, but it missed the mark. It was just annoying. While the author may not want to tell us what the "it" is, I really wanted to know so I was left pretty frustrated.
also a weird book. interesting exercise in what it means to keep something from your reader and explored how much we actually need to know in order to feel a desire to keep reading. unsure how I feel about it though. I think I like to know more as a reader, but also that was a question throughout the whole book: how much do we actually need to know about something? don't know if I'll read it again, unsure how I'd feel about recommending it to people haha
Could not get into the storyline. Didn't seem like there would be any resolution to the "problem" and the dialouge between characters was awkward. I understand the premise and why the awkwardness was there but it was a little too much for me to try to wade through in order to get into the story.
Listened to audiobook. Going between 2 and 4 stars. Writing was ridiculous in some places. Not sure what to think (but definitely don’t understand the hype)

Couldn’t finish this one. Got half way through and couldn’t make myself go any further.
Beautiful vivid writing, undeniably worthy of the five star rating. This book made me feel deeply unsettled and I was too tense to enjoy reading the second half.
