Overall this was pretty good - I would describe it as a low-key thriller/dystopian novel. It's more of a character-based novel, but is fast-paced enough that it doesn't get too boring.

Overall, the author did a good job of writing from the different characters' POV, though sometimes the writing verged into overwrought/cheesy territory. And there are parts where the narrator describes what is actually happening, but it's not clear enough, so makes for confusing paragraphs/passages. I really appreciate that it was short, not going to lie (just about 250 pages), and that there is just enough descriptions of what is happening. Nothing is more enraging than having a suspenseful novel that never tells me what is causing the suspense!

Ughhhhh. Starts out promising, but then just more and more ridiculous things start happening and everyone is dumb and incompetent. And I HATED the shifting perspectives. This book was not for me at all.

The way this was written was really not for me.  I love seeing how regular ass people deal with adversity, but the style this was written just didn’t hit

This is a story for our times. Thought-provoking page turner becomes a poignant commentary on our world. A little challenging if you are feeling anxious about the world.

I really enjoyed is book and this book made me want to watch the film also I would like the author to write more books set in this world. I think people who are fans of we used to live here by Marcus Kliewer or middle of the night by Riley Sager may like is book. The cover of book was simple but stunning. The writing was pretty good and the writing is easy to follow also the ending was well done. Both the atmosphere and the mystery was great. The paced of plot was little bit rush and the paced of plot was unsteady. I mixed feeling about the characters and I had a hard time connect to them.

This is a rare occasion where I preferred the movie over the book (granted I watched the movie first) but neither are overly groundbreaking tbh. I thought the movie did a better job of building suspense while the book did a better job of developing the characters.

I extremely enjoyed this book. Yes is a weird book It starts there will be lots of  off a bi t s have that aren’t necessarily supposed to be spelled out with an answer, but that’s not the point. It starts out a bit slow but there is palpable tension and as you go on the pace quickens and tension tightens. It’s incredible the instinctual fear sensation Alam is able to generate without anything too flashy or showy. I loved the commentary on humanity, relationships, knowledge v isolation, nature/instincts and so much more . If you wanted the show it is different and absolutely worth the read.

DID NOT FINISH: 29%

Language of the book was overly sexualized (in non-sexual context??) and the author loves a long, drawn out list that does nothing to further the plot or create an atmosphere. Just bad writing and poor plot progression.

Ever since I read the plot for Leave the World Behind I have been so intrigued to read it. A family takes a holiday to a house in Long Island, away from the hustle and bustle of their city life.
