Laila Hollister loves solving puzzles and hunting down cyber criminals. When her Uncle Samar asks her to look into financial imbalances he feels are happening at Archer Securities Laila is up for the challenge.

Trinity Washington works for Archer Securities as an IT specialist fielding Help Desk calls from an office in her home. Working from home is a good fit for Trinity so she can care for her mom who suffers with early onset dementia. Ornella taught her daughter to be generous and kind to those less fortunate than herself. Using her skills in conjunction with other “hacktivists”, Trinity has become a cyber Robin Hood of sorts. With a conglomerate the size of Archer Securities a few redirected pallets of goods here and there are rarely detected.

I enjoyed this quick read and was impressed with how easy it was to admire Trinity and the life she leads with Ornella and her caregiver, Carol. This woman is trying to make a difference in the lives of many others yet deals with the stress of watching her mother lose her independence and forget her only daughter. Laila struggles to understand the emotional responses of those around her and relies heavily on her cousin Sia to determine appropriate responses when dealing with people. It is clear that she sits squarely on the autism spectrum yet that term is never used. I found this refreshing. Accepting people for who they are without labels levels the playing field for all.

I also enjoyed the humor throughout the story which lifted some darker moments and added to the character studies of these two intelligent women. Laila would come across as wooden and unfeeling were it not for the banter between her and her cousin. Trinity steals the heart of the reader from the moment she appears on page. Her responses to Help Desk calls are entertaining and endearing.

Memorable characters and a pleasure to read.

I've read some books by this author and specially liked Chaps so I decided to have a go at this one. This novella is part of The Law Game series published by Ylva.

The length of this book is 28.500 words and unfortunately I think the plot seems a bit rushed. Possibly the author is thinking of a second part but in my opinion the relationship between the main characters and the end would gain with more development. Additionaly, some situations seem a bit unreal.

Overall, an okay read though there are better in this series.
