I recommend reading this book after the second book and before the third you. You meet an important character in this book.

I’m not gonna lie, after reading, the first two books, and it being so long from the last time I was with Marcus and Terriana, I was hesitant going into this book. My mood was wanting to pick up the third book, I didn’t think I would enjoy this one but oh my gosh, was I wrong!

This book follows Marcus and Agrippa, as they are under their final training as the 37th legion. Silvara is a rebel who is hoping to stop the siege on her people. She originally try’s to seduce the Legatus Marcus but instead catches Agrippa’s eye. As star crossed lovers, will their love be able to survive the political conflict brewing in her homeland?

I absolutely loved learning about Marcus before we meet him in the first book. It was really interesting seeing how he became the Legatus that we know today. He definitely was young, made mistakes, but every decision he made for his men which is very true to his character today.

Agrippa, oh my gosh what do I say about him. He is hilarious. I was laughed so much throughout this book. His character is so different and yet has some similarities to Marcus. He is passionate, kind, and always puts the man first. I definitely hope we see more of his character in future stories.

Although this is a novella of sorts, it actually felt like a full fledge story, which I really appreciate it. A lot of times Novellas seem to just be fillers, but this one felt like a good story with political, intrigue, character, development, laughter, and romance.

I have been picking up these books back to back and it has been a while since I’ve done that. I’m going to be very sad when I’m done The Gilded Serpent as I’ll have to wait probably a year for the next book.
