Dark Matter is truly unputdownable and I have the hardest time with books holding my attention. I was enthralled the entire time. Such a great read!

The science nerd in me absolutely loved this! Even if you aren’t science minded, Blake Crouch does a great job in explaining the intricacies of quantum mechanics and the physics behind the scientific idea of parallel universes following the choices we didn’t make in our cognizant lives. The possibilities are infinite and I left this book somewhat feeling like my life is a small spectrum of what it is vs what could have been.

“The Many-Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics posits that all possible realities exist. That everything which has a probability of happening is happening. Everything that might have occurred in our past did occur, only in another universe.”

Dark Matter was fast paced, with each chapter continuing to draw the reader further into the story. I felt actual anxiety and despair for the main character Jason, from the moment he’s abducted, to every moment he hits a roadblock in trying to get home.

“I’m looking for a grain of sand on an infinite beach.”

I loved the deeper meaning I found in this book, in how the moments and intricacies in your life are one in an infinite number of possibilities. An alteration in one thing could have led you somewhere else completely. There are so many what ifs in one’s life, and I think sometimes we as human beings get fixated on what could have been. But this book outlines how every choice and action, regardless how minuscule, leads you to your current place in your life. And even if you try to achieve certain dreams based off your regrets, some of the things you love about your current situation may not be able to exist in that world you’re trying to create. Regrets exist so we can learn and make better choices. Life is about sacrifices and compromise, and sometimes you have to give up one thing in order to have something else you love and appreciate more.

“I thought I appreciated every moment, but sitting here in the cold, I know I took it all for granted. And how could I not? Until everything topples, we have no idea what we actually have, how precariously and perfectly it all hangs together.”

“If one tiny thing were different, they wouldn’t be the people I love.”

We can always continue to grow and move forward; but in order to do that, we must let go of the past. I leave this book appreciating what I have in my life and the world I’ve created around myself: with my family, my job, who I am.

“No one tells you it’s about to change, to be taken away. There’s no proximity alert, no indication that you’re standing on the precipice.”

“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.”
