Jack Prelutsky, for better or worse, tends to get lumped into a group with the other master of silly children's poetry: Shel Silverstein. On the whole, I enjoyed this more than my reread of Sidewalk, but while it avoided the lows, it never really hit the highs of Silverstein either. It was all very charming and cute. And I suppose for bedtime readaloud that's perfectly okay.

I love this guy! I read this book to my son and often laugh myself at numerous poems, some of which are clever in wordplay. Prelutsky demonstrates good acumen in rhyme and meter as well.

Raining Pigs and Noodles is a book of poetry that every age of child can enjoy. The poems are silly and sometimes nonsensical. I was introduced to Jack Prelutsky poems by my sister-in-law who at the time was teaching 1st grade and gave our kids a book of his poetry. When my own daughter started kindergarden, her teacher had her class memorize a poem for Thanksgiving. It was so cute and funny that I asked who the author was and she said Prelutsky. While that sealed it, I began reading more of his poetry with my kids and found his compilations to have a lot of fun poems. Some are best read aloud and some it is necessary to read it to see the visual style he uses like "I'm Caught Up In Infinity" which is written in the shape of an infinity sign and can be read in a continual loop or "I Am Perched Upon a Star" in which the poem is written upon a star.
I think every home and every library should have a little Prelutsky.

Another fun collection from Prelutsky, complete with wonderful illustrations from [a:James Stevenson|68669|James Stevenson|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. Filled with silly tales told with Prelutsky's characteristic wit, wordplay, and flowing style.

I especially enjoyed the visual poems such as the spiral formation of "I Am Stuck Inside a Seashell", the fading text of "Hello and Good-Bye", the back and forth pattern of "Zigzag", and "I Am Winding Through a Maze", which does just that. Others make use of different font sizes and styles, which add a fun element to reading. Perfect for anyone who thinks they don't like poetry.

A great collection for young readings and those who enjoy life's silliness. Prelutsky brings humor to household chores, the animal kingdom, food, and growing up.
