A haunting look at technology through the eyes of a recent father.

Well written and meaningful in every sentence, quite a tear jerker as well. As a father of two girls myself, and as a soldier that has had to leave them behind many times, this certainly brought some feelings to the front. I could feel the main characters pain as he turned from the screen, and his life he left.

What a wonderful story!

I'm a fussy reader, passing over most short stories because the chance of them having decent characterisation is slim to none. Having said that, though, I'm pleasantly surprised by everything Jason Gurley has written. He and several other authors I first read in From the Indie Side (to which I contributed a story), have a real mastery of the short story format. You'll get no spoilers out of me. I hope Jason develops The Dark Age into a full length novel. Few people realize that stories like Enders Game started out as shorts, so there's a precedent for big things coming from small beginnings.

Such a beautiful short story and another great Indie record from Preston at Bull City reader.

Following a father who see's his daughter being born before leaving to traverse space the beautify of parental love really shines through in this story, one day there born, the next there two, then there eighteen and off on there own.

I don't have kids, but when I do i'm sure this amazing story will be even more powerful. The only reason I didn't give this story five stars is because I really, really wanted more! (hardly a negative I know.)

This is my favorite story that Jason Gurley has written. I cry my way through it every time, even though I know how the story goes. I found out today that he is turning this story into a novel and I am so excited for it.
