"When the next victim surfaces, will I be confident that I investigated every avenue?"

Evelyn Michaels has been tracking the serial killer aptly named Vigilante for months. Vigilante only has a few murders under their belt - but they're all revenge killings, based on getting justice for those who have slipped the cuffs already. When a new murder occurs, Evelyn knows it isn't her Vigilante, but the work of a Copycat. Racing against the clock, Evelyn must reconcile her own demons, past, and future with the danger creeping up on her.

This is it. This is the book that solidified Lillian Lark as my new favorite author. I had high hopes going into this. I'm a Criminal Minds/Hannibal/True Detective girlie and this rolled them all up into a novella and delivered it to me on a silver platter. I highlighted SO many lines in this book. The writing is beautiful, dark, and just toes the line of narrating to the point it felt like I was being told this gruesome story instead of reading it. I'm not sure that makes sense - but Lark's authorial tone in this was everything to me.

I can easily see a lot of the places where inspiration was taken from popular crime media, but I can't be mad at it when it's done so well?? I also didn't find this dark at all, which - oops? It's more murky, blurred shades of grey that tangle together. I do wish the ending had been a little more solid and a little more satisfying, but as it's a novella, I'm giving it and the open ended epilogue a pass. I'd love if Lillian Lark chooses to return to this world eventually and fledge it out and maybe polish this up for a re-release (and fix the Kade to Kane typo at the tail end of the epilogue, that did bug me). Overall, it's not perfect, but she is very gorgeous to me and I will, in fact, be returning to this.

Also if you see me with an AO3 tab open to Hannibal fanfics, mind your damn business.

Content warnings: Sexual content/pregnancy (sexual content is mildly graphic and deals with sex addiction, pregnancy is half plot), Violence/Murder/Death (I mean, he's a serial killer. He kills people.), Addiction/Alcoholism (In reference to coping mechanisms, might affect some readers), MINOR WARNINGS FOR: Body horror (brief crime scene descriptions, literally nothing to the level of Hannibal), Pedophilia/Rape (brief reference in regard to a case/revenge killing)

Good book love the mystery of who it killer was. There wasn’t a lot of spicy scenes but when there was they were wow 🥵. I really was surprised to like a serial killer vs FBI agent romance so much especially since the guy was the serial killer but it was really well done. I did also like how he only murdered people who had done bad things and gotten away with it ie. rapists and other murderers (made me think 💭 of Oliver Queen as the green arrow) and that he wasn’t just murdering for the sake of murdering. Anyway good book with some great spice. Have fun reading it 📖😘
