I never read books that were co-written by James Patterson and Andrew Grant. It was not until Mr. Grant branched out on his own that I discovered him and liked his writing. It had been a while since I have read a book by this author so I decided to jump back in with Mr. Grant's latest novel, Run.

While I liked this book there were some issues I had with it. First off I never fully embraced the characters in the story. This surprised me a little as I have never had this problem before reading a book by this author. Another thing is that this story moved too fast. It had a lot of back and forth twists that it was hard to keep who was the bad guys from the good guys straight in the beginning. Overall a good book.

A special thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

RUN by Andrew Grant, a fast-paced, non-stop thriller into the dangerous world of corporate cover-ups, technology and high stakes security. 3.5 stars

Marc Bowman, a successful IT consultant for AmeriTel (a huge communications company) is fired with no warning or cause, and his life begins to spin out of control. The previous day, Marc downloaded AmeriTel data to two flash drives to help him for his future use. Marc’s wife, Carolyn, is a senior employee of the firm and appears to side with the company, as she does not want to lose her job. (you will question this relationship throughout the book). She tries everything to get Marc to return the flash drives that contain AmeriTel data and a mysterious virus.

What happens next is non-stop action for a week’s account of unfortunate mishaps. Things are missing from their home, strange people following him, government agencies are threatening him, he is stalked, ambushed, wiretapped, arrested, duped, double crossed and he does not know who to trust. As a consultant he needs to keep his reputation in order to move on with his other plans, as well as keep his life together. Then Carolyn goes missing. Without the money Carolyn was bringing home from AmeriTel, he would never be able to finance his first product.

Marc is not equipped to deal with this disaster, he is in over his head, questioning everything; the cops, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security—appears each have their own agenda and they do not seem to care about him. He is questioning his wife, and at time wonders if he is paranoid, caught up in a web of deceit he cannot control.

You will wonder at times the bad, good, and ugly -- FBI, fakes, killers, to Homeland Security. Heart-pounding and razor sharp suspense; a techno thriller with adventurous twists and turns you do not see coming while Marc runs to stay alive.

RUN, is an engrossing thriller using technology, prototypes, and security concerns, you need to read, as do not want to give away the plot (no spoilers). Do not give up, too early, when reading, as it gets frustrating and complicated; yet all becomes clear in the end. It has the action of a movie, versus a book, so be prepared. Fans of his Grant’s brother, thriller writer-Lee Child will want to give brother a whirl.

Another book with a good premise and promising start. But as I read on, I found it to be very slow going. A lot of words and a lot of writing only moved the story a little bit. I also found the characters uninteresting and lacked realism. In the end the slow plot and lack of focus killed it for me. I didn't care if the characters lived or died and I didn't enjoy this book. I got this book free as a review copy.

2022 ATY Challenge - a book with fewer than 5000 ratings on GoodReads

I've read a couple books by this author - he is the brother of Lee Child of Jack Reacher fame, and has recently taken over writing the Reacher books. I've liked his own books. They are fast paced and literal page turners. This one was no different. Lots of twists and turns. I wish I hadn't had to stop reading with about 45pages left last night but stupid work was calling.

Extremely fast paced and action packed. I found myself lost a few times - like whenever the lead character started talking about his analysis work. That went right over my head and I could feel my eyes glazing over. Once it starts into the full plot, though, it's hard to put down, simply because you know there are liars in this story, but it is really hard to figure out who they are, and I for one needed to read until I could find out. I felt the art gallery character was unnecessary, but his presence in the storyline didn't bug me enough to stop reading obviously.
