A well written book that is eyeopening on the troubles with our justice system and death row. Hinton is an inspiration in his radical love and attitude about his situation. The behavior of the state of Alabama reads like it’s from the Jim Crow era and it’s disappointing to read that a lot has not changed.

While Hinton is a great example of everything wrong with the justice system I wish the book took a more systemic view of the issue. I don’t believe you should need to be this exceptional if you’re wrongly convicted to get released.

I read this book upon recommendation from a student. What an incredibly moving memoir about the horrific journey of one man experiencing the corruption and racism of society and government. While I am aware of Bryan Stevenson’s ongoing and passionate work for equity and Justice, I had not heard the specifics of Anthony Ray Hinton’s story. His words and anecdotes throughout his book will stay with me. I was brought to tears of sorrow and joy as I read about his experiences being wrongfully accused and on death row for 30 years. It’s truly unimaginable. This is a book not to be missed; it’s life-changing, and I’m in complete awe of Hinton’s perseverance and hope despite such traumatic treatment and loss and also of the work and dedication of Stevenson. Both these men are true inspirations!
