I read a story from this each morning when I woke up - what a way to start your day!

There were a couple of stories in here I enjoyed. The stand outs for me were the girl with the rabbit for a vagina and the woman who wanted to turn into a circle (what did I just write).

I think I wanted to like more but I struggle when things get too abstract, I find it difficult to follow. I always feel like I'm a step behind, missing something.

I really want to read Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica because I hear so many people rave about it but I just don't know if I have the brain power to get through it?!

If you like trippy, reality bending horror this is absolutely for you.

[2.5] As I have expressed previously, I am not a huge fan of short-story collections. However, I keep getting pulled back into wanting to try another anthology out for size, just to see what I think.

Nineteen Claws and a Black Bird reminds me a lot of Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung, as far as the themes it explores, the writing, and my overall reception of it. It was fine, although I like this collection slightly better than Chung’s.

The stories that stood out to me were: Candy Pink, Unamunos Boxes, Roberto, Earth, and The Dead. The rest of them were just meh, some of them I don’t even remember because I was not interested in them even remotely. Also, honourable mention to ‘A Light, Swift, and Monstrous Sound’ as that is not bad either and kicks off the collection well.

However, 6 out of 19 stories being to my liking wasn’t amazing numbers, so overall, it was just okay. For those who liked Cursed Bunny, I would recommend this, though.

some gems contained within. ended on a high note for me as the last two stories were fantastic. Those raisemy rating from the 3 I had previously been thinking.
