TW: Alcohol abuse and dependency, child abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence, racial slurs

Felt long winded and the overtly sexual parts and racial slurs made me cringe but the “scary parts” were good.

This book takes a while to get through, but that's nothing new if you have read Stephen King before. This is very different than the movie, and it's gruesome and terrible, but you want to keep reading it. Since it was written in the 70's there are racial slurs used by the evil in this book that could definitely be a turnoff for readers. However the good characters are truly good people and like other SK books that is what gets you: you relate to them enough to feel like it could be use in those shoes. Worth the read, but a dense, slow book so I likely won't read it a second time.
