Re-read Jan 2017

Still so very, very good. Even better, really, the second time around. The opening chapter is one of the best, sexiest beginnings to any romance book I've read. And that final line? Ungh. Ah-mazing <3 <3

This paranormal mystery is set in a world where 1 in 500 people have a psychic ability. MC Victor Bayne can see and talk to dead people and that's a great asset when you're a homicide detective.

I really enjoyed this and only wish it was longer. To me this had a great premise - loved how there are so many other psychic talents out there showcased in well fleshed out supporting characters. I also really liked Vic's voice and personality - his loner attitude and self disparagement was to me endearing and funny.

So yes, I'm intrigued, especially where it concerns Vic's love interest - fellow nonpsychic cop - Jacob Marks. The romance kinda came out of nowhere but was hot when it was focused on these two. And of course it ended right at a point where turning that last page left you itching for more!

A powerful little novella that really packs a punch - can't wait to read more about Vic & Jacob!

The novels 'mystery' was pretty good and for it being so short, nothing felt rushed. The personal relationship were brilliant and although I'm not in love with Vic's first person narration, it was definitely funny and kept me interested all the way through.

A nice short read!

3.5 stars. I liked the characters, but the book was too short, and the beginning was a little off. I would have either liked to start off with the sex, and I mean from word one (I know Jacob and Vic did have sex very early on in the book), or I would have preferred to meet and get to know them a little before they jumped into the sex. The timing and the way we met Jacob was off.

Itโ€™s fine? But doesnโ€™t hold up to the test of time very well.

I loved the paranormal aspect of this book. It was very interesting, but the romance part was lacking. Maybe it was the length of the book. Or maybe it was because I only got Vic's POV and not Jacob's. It didn't feel complete. Like it was just a side effect of the paranormal storyline.

PSYCOP series
by Jordan Castillo Prince
audiobook narrated by Gomez Pugh

paranormal investigation series with mmromance

They say the books in the series get better from here on. For me, already book 1 is a 5โ˜… read. Here's why:

Really well-done 1 person narration. The mc just thinks his chaotic thoughts while the story happens. He doesn't tell you the story as a narrator.

I think my most often used word in the notes is "relatable". Nevermind, what it says about me ๐Ÿ˜…

The story doesn't evolve about two men. There're other relationships. The mc has his own perception of those other ppl. And these ppl have their own views. They have their own lives, background, ppl in their lives (family)...

Really "good" unreliable narrator. This book isn't super romantic or so it seems.  Mostly because the mc's thoughts are scattered, and his own perception of himself doesn't allow him to imagine that someone could like him THAT much.

This being said, the sex scenes were very good and also telling.

What else?

The audiobook is great.

I did need to read the book too though. I wasn't prepared how dense the narration would be. So I read it first, because with only listening to it I wouldn't be able to keep up with having thoughts about mc's thoughts ๐Ÿ˜…, not to mention  grasp what was relevant, but never actually said ๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ.
