First read: Jan 2014

Second read Sept 2021: This was worse than I remembered. I won’t change my original rating but it’s barely a 2 star read for me now. The alpha hole trope hasn’t aged well over the last 7 years (thank fuck) and Dimitri is the worst of them. Plus the whole ***SPOILER ALERT*** whateverthefuck reincarnation thing going on with with Honor was an eye-rolling mess. Ah well, on to the next book.

Really disappointed with the way the story ended! It just feels like it took away from the character development Honor had and all the things she survived that helped her become one of the best character in this series.

Oh Dimitri.... I've read this book multiple times, because whilst it's hot as hell, it's also got Dimitri front and centre, and he's the head of the Seven and a Vampire - a wickedly fiendish one at that. This story of echoes through time between him and Honor is probably one of my all time favourites, Naasir's story is fun, Jason, Venom too but... Dimitri... very special and very beautifully written.

I think for me this is the most shift in a character I have seen in the books. I know Raphael becomes more human with Elena, but the depth of Dimitri and how he becomes so different to how you've perceived him in the previous three books.

Who's your favourite?!?

This book is more about Dimitri's background before he became a vampire. It plays importantly in the current dynamics with the heroine of the book, Honor.

Slow burn, decent payoff, easy storyline, very dark themes.

This book has a some very dark themes, with some really cringy moments.

There is imprisonment, torture, and the death by eating (vampire) of a baby with descriptions of the sounds. So yeah.

However, it was a good book.
