Way too long and cliched.

Awesome.
Beautiful.
Perfect.

The last chapters have made me cry.
SpoilerBut do not worry, the story has a happy ending.

Echo, Noah. You are the proof that Life is bitter and Life is sweet.
Some dreams breaking, but we can always make new ones.

Have you ever read a book that you felt was so much of a train wreck that even though you wanted to relegate it to the DNF pile, you couldn't, because you wanted to see how much more wreck-tastic it could get? That's exactly how I felt while reading Pushing the Limits.

I had really high hopes for this one. It's got great reviews on Goodreads, and I'm a sucker for reading books about damaged people, and seeing how they cope. But I mostly made this face the entire time I was reading:

The book had a lot of promise in its premise. Echo experienced something traumatic, of which she's now repressed all memories. Her ordeal has made her a bit of a social pariah in her high school, with her "cool" friends mostly abandoning her or only wanting to be "private" friends. She starts seeing a new counselor at school and slowly resolves to get her old life back, and to recover the memories that she's missing from that event a few years ago. Meanwhile, bad boy Noah has problems of his own as he bounces through the foster care system and gets labeled a stoner, a trouble maker. Noah and Echo would normally never cross paths, if their lives hadn't been derailed by their own tragedies. But they do, and, of course, the good girl with secrets falls in love with the bad boy with a hidden heart of gold.

But, see, all of that would be fine, and could make a great story, but almost all of the characters here just suck. I'm okay with characters who are unlikable -- I don't feel like every book needs to be full of people who are perfect and happy and who don't make mistakes or do dumb things. I love characters who aren't perfect, and I have a huge soft spot for difficult people in fiction. But I spent a lot of time going "ugh, gross" in my head while reading. Echo's friends turn their backs on her when she needs them the most. Her father is controlling and distant. Her stepmother comes off as self-absorbed and vapid. Echo's boyfriend constantly tries to pressure her into having sex. Noah's thoughts go past your typical teenage boy's and are borderline creepy sometimes. He's constantly referring to her as his nymph, his siren, making comments about her body, about how he wants her to be his... it was just weird and unrealistic and not something I wanted to be reading, and I am definitely not the type to put a book down just because of graphic content.

Such a good book! Loved the storyline and the two POV's! Noah and Echo are pure magic together, I fell in love with them :) Isaiah and Beth were great characters, the relationships between all the characters were great as well! I enjoyed the ending but I want to read more!! 5 stars for Pushing The Limits ;)

3.5 stars

Going into the book I had high expectations because of the reviews on goodreads. I'll keep this simple and just say the things I did and did not like!

What I liked:
I really liked Echo she was a very strong character and the mystery surrounding her accident kept me intrigued. Having two flawed characters put together makes for an interesting story. Noah and Echo were complete opposites to it was interesting to see how the author put these two characters together. Also the character development was so so good!

What i didn't like:
I really did not like Noah at all. It switches from Echo to Noah's POV, and Noah was annoying me because he kept saying things like "she was so hot" "her cleavage" "my nymph" you get the idea...this was being said almost on every page. Noah was very immature throughout most of the book which made him very unlikeable. I also found this book to be boring at times and some things just dragged on and on...

Overall I would continue the series because I believe the next two books follow different characters!

I think I say this every time I review a contemporary, but this is not my usual genre and this book especially pushed me outside my comfort zone. But I'm so glad I took the chance on this book, since I really enjoyed it!

Echo and Noah are two very complex characters and they are really what made this book work for me. They were both some multi-dimensional and both felt like they could have been real people. And I loved both of them! And I fell in love with both of them. Echo I connected with fairly quickly, since I saw some of my own personality traits in her (people-pleaser, a bit timid). Plus this girl is having a majorly tough time with everything going on and her father drove me crazy with all his pushiness. Noah, on the other hand, was initially not my type at all. But getting inside and his head and see what made him tick and his extreme love for his brothers made me fall in love with him as well.

This book is told in alternating POV between Echo and Noah. That's often my my favourite form, but in this case I really enjoyed it. I know I would not have connected as deeply with either character without getting to see things from their perspective.

Another thing that impressed me with this book was the build of the romance. Somehow, Katie McGarry made their journey to get to know each other so believable and perfectly paced. I love it (and I'm not usually a huge fan of romances). I also enjoyed the secondary characters of Beth and Isaiah, who made up Noah's dysfunctional little family. I also appreciated Lila's loyalty to Echo, even though I would have liked to see a bit more character development for her.

For a girl who doesn't really do contemporary and almost never is a fan of romances, I'm shocked at how much I enjoyed this book. I think it's a real testament to the author that she was able to win me over. Now I'm excited to read the second book in the series because I get to see more of Beth. i'd love to get inside that girl's head!

This book is soo addicting! It's basically a love story without any other real subplots but it's an amazing love story that was such a page-turner! How both Echo and Noah changed throughout the book and gained more courage and uncovered secrets really connected with me and I loved it. I really want another book about them but as I understand it, the next book is about Beth and so on continuing with each of the characters. So that's sad :(

5 stars!

Libro PERFETTO <3

Holy hell. This book is amazing. I love Noah.

Great one

I read this because of a recommendation from another author, Lori Foster. It was a first read from McGarry for me. From page one I was hooked. I only put it down because I needed sleep. I loved the characters, and the story. Awesome fun read.
