Oh wow, YA at it's best!
MY REVIEW
I received an ARC of this brilliant book directly from Harlequin Teen/Mira so a thank you to them first! As my copy was an ARC the cover is not the one pictured above, the cover of my book was just plain pearlized white colour with the title etc wrote on it. I really like the cover pictured above (US cover) which will be the actual book cover. The cover picture is set by the school lockers and shows Echo with her long curly red hair dressed in layers that have long sleeves to cover her scars, and she is kissing, the gorgeous boy with the bad reputation called Noah. I really like the cover as it is actually a scene from the book too.
I really do not like the cover pictured at the bottom of the review (UK cover), I think it's gaudy in its colours and doesn't give you the emotion of the other cover.
Now to the book, I absolutely loved it, as the quote from Simone Elkeles says on the cover "A riveting and emotional ride!" The book takes you through the emotions and problems of Echo. She has night terrors about what happened to her, yet her brain blocks out what actually happened between her and her mother. Psychologists have said that she is traumatized that her brain refuses to allow her to even visualize or remember fully what happened. No one will tell Echo exactly what happened that day and she is assigned a new school social worker called Mrs Collins. Mrs Collins meets Echo's father and step mum Ashley, and after much discussion, it is decided that Echo can tutor someone who Mrs Collins has in mind to earn the money to fulfill her wish of restoring her brother Aires car. Aires had joined the marines and whilst serving in Afghanistan was killed.
One of Mrs Collin's students who she is trying to help deal with their emotions/problems is the school bad boy, and casual drug user, Noah Hutchins. Noah's parents died in a house fire and he was put into care and separated from his younger brothers Jacob and Tyler. All Noah wants is to get his family back together. Because Noah has had bad...no awful experiences in the care system he automatically presumes that the same is happening to his two brothers.
The love and emotions are so strongly put across in this book it makes you tear up yourself and makes your heart ache for the characters, not just the main characters either but for Beth and Isiah, and for Carrie and Joe.
With Noah and Echo, probably the two most unlikeliest friends thrown together by Mrs Collins idea that echo should tutor Noah, they develop feelings for each other but can they overcome their own psychological problems and trust in each other and help each other through? Will Echo remember everything? Are Jacob and Tyler in danger?
I recommend you read this book, it's YA Lit at it's very best!
So when is it available i hear you shout? 31st July/3rd August So pre-order it/buy it now!
So did I enjoy the book? YES. Would I recommend? Yes. Would I read more in the series/by Kate McGarry? Yes I certainly would.

The beginning had a few things I wasn't comfortable with but the characters grew throughout the story and reflected on their behaviours, which I really liked. I might pick up more stories from this series if I need a quick YA read.
Not sure exactly what it is, but I kind of loved this book. Good plot, good characters.
I had a feeling after reading the first couple pages, that I was going to love this book... Honestly this book just took me to another world... I could never imagine going through what Echo and Noah had. It's unbelievable at times to realize that there are people in this world experiencing what Echo & Noah have been through. Outstanding book! I can't wait to get my hands on Dare You To..
This was a good quick read. I honestly thought it was going to be better though. So many of my friends raved about it but it just reminded me a lot of perfect chemistry.
UPDATE:
I read this almost five years later. It was cute but I changed from four stars to three. It was good enough and did what I wanted. I need cute quick books in between my fantasy/sci fi.

Fantastic book, what these very strong characters have gone through, just loved it, can't wait for Beth's story to be hopefully put on NetGalley!
I honestly didn't expect much from this book, however I fell in love and became addicted to the storyline very quickly. (PS, Noah - so heart eyes)
Ok, I am a fickle book reader and reviewer...every time I read a new book that I like it's my new favorite! I know it's just the rush of each story and the emotions that get tied up into it, but I really did love this book. Noah is just awesome...one of my favorite book teenagers and yes, I realize that I also say that a lot!
Echo is an emotionally and physically scarred 18 year old. Something traumatic happened to her and she doesn't remember what it was. She has bits and pieces of the memory, but her family doesn't want her to remember for fear that the memory will break her emotionally. Noah has his own traumatic past. He's a foster kid with a bad reputation that is mostly unwarranted. He's had trouble in most of his faster homes, but what he wants more than anything is to graduate and get custody of his younger brothers.
Echo and Noah are both outcasts in school. She is the crazy freak who always wears long sleeves and gloves. He is he bad boy stoner. They share a school therapist, Mrs. Collings. Echo wants to earn some money to fix her brothers old car and Noah needs to improve his grades so Mrs. Collings sets Echo up as Noah's tutor. By forcing them together she is helping each of them, but she doesn't expect them to work together to get private information from her that will help each of them with their problems. Echo wants to remember what happened to her and Noah wants more than supervised visits with his brothers. They also didn't expect to fall in love. Will they be able to help each other get past all the bad stuff in their pasts so they can move toward a better future?
There is a lot of emotion in this book and it did have me in tears at times. I loved the characters and I knew that I was going to like the book from the very first line.
“My father is a control freak, I hate my stepmother, my brother is dead and my mother has…well…issues. How do you think I’m doing?”
I highly recommend this book if you like YA Romance that's bordering on New Adult. It's a great story and it's really well written. It seems like a lot of the books I have been reading have been written with alternating 1st Person POV's and this one was like that. It pretty much alternates from chapter to chapter with Echo and Noah. I didn't like this method for a long time, but now I almost want all the books I read to be that way so that I get a little glimpse into each character that goes a little deeper that a 3rd person POV.
I know that there is going to be a 2nd book in this series, but it doesn't center around Echo and Noah. Their part of the story is wrapped up in this book pretty nicely. The next book centers around Noah's foster sister Beth. I didn't care for her as much in this story so I hope she redeems herself in the next book! I know that I will be reading it for sure.

Fantastic contemporary read. I knocked a star off as I found first 100 pages or so very difficult to get into, and the characters voices hard to believe - but it did improve drastically after that, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I LOVED this book. In depth review will be on my blog!
This was a trip into classic YA territory. When YA is written well, it truly is my favourite genre. Pushing the limits fitted into my expectations. This is a book I've had on my kindle for a few years, I've been meaning to read it, I've heard lots of good things about it, but I'd built it up in my head. I
Here's what's good about this book. The characters Noah and Echo have great depth, their stories are slowly revealed. I had empathy for both of them even before the true nature of their circumstances was revealed. Echo has some mental health issues arising from a trauma she's experienced and whilst 'trauma' can be a common trope, Echo's story was unique and well executed. Noah was not a perfect character or good boyfriend material but he was utterly endearing, even when he acted with complete stupidity. These two together just worked.
What sets this book apart from other typical YA books was the innovative storyline and the family backgrounds.
