Gave up on this one after about 6 chapters. Not a terrible book but not as interesting as I thought it would be. Definitely written by a teenage girl.
Wow I loved this book. I haven't felt this way about a book in ages. When I got to the last page I let out a little happy sigh and smiled. I won't lie...it left me warm and fuzzy all over. I have a sudden crazy for a 'Girls Night In"
In this book we are told that there is a 'DUFF' (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) in every group of friends. One night while Bianca is sitting at a teenagers nightclub alone, with her friends dancing on the dance floor she is approached by Wesley...Man-Whore extraordinaire! He bluntly informs Bianca that she is the DUFF of the group and that talking to her raises his reputation in her 'Hot' friends eyes which then obviously leads to him getting laid (Eye-roll). So what's a girl to do? Well throw her coke in his face of course!! Go Bianca! *cheer* Then then have a few moments at school where he spends his time teasing her and she spends hers calling him every name under the sun. Now these two may hate each other but boy do they have some chemistry. Which only gets hotter when they start sleeping together to forget they crappy home lives.
I love love LOVED Bianca in this book. She may not be as hot as her friends but she has a backbone and a fiery temper. She's extremely mature for her age and doesn't let stupid petty things get her down. Her two friends Jessica and Casey are just as best friends should be, even though Bianca doesn't want to talk about things they are still very supportive of her. Then there's Wesley, he's a little bit like an onion...he has a lot of layers. :P He plays the suave, cocky and handsome guy that all the girls want to be with but no1 ever manages to tame. As Bianca spends more time with him we get to see that his family life may be worse than hers.
It starts out as love/hate booty calls but when real life problems start intruding they both come to realize that they are both running away from something, and using each other to do it.

I liked this more than the movie! The characters were much more complex and there were more layers to the situations she was in and choices she was making. I found myself almost always mirroring the feelings she had for Wesley, which impressed me. Must be a good author to take the reader on such a journey!

I'm so sad I've finished this book again! I just wanted it to go on and on! I absolutely loved my reread of this and enjoyed diving back into the life of Bianca and her experiences, especially with Wesley. I will most certainly be reading this again in the future. Bianca's sarcasm and cynicism is undeniably funny and relatable.
I think this book had a lot of potential and, yes, it was a good story, but I found myself getting really annoyed throughout it.
The main character, Bianca/the Duff/Duffy, had her heart broken her freshman year, which resulted in her cynical and bitter personality. I thought this could have been a great way for the author to weave in some snarky, witty, and funny remarks, but she didn't. I was really agitated with Bianca and I seriously do not think she could get any more cynical. Even when she got hurt, she was bitter. I wish the author made her a bit more vulnerable and allowed her some transformation throughout the book. Also, Bianca doesn't ever really solve her problems. They just happen to magically fix themselves. She comes home and her dad is okay. Her crush on two guys worked out on its own. There wasn't any real depth or finality. In the end, I was left feeling dissatisfied and with a lot of questions.
Once again, The Duff had a lot of potential, but it reminded me too much of Beautiful Disaster by Jaime McGuire, which I believe is the better book.

This was cute. I read it in 2 hours. I liked it a lot. Wish it was new adult. Wish the ending was a bit more explored, felt kinda unfinished.
