Good read
I stayed up all night to read this book! Couldn't put it down. Nice story line and I enjoyed the characters.

My first audiobook. I was surprised how well I understood it. And, of course, best book ever. Read it, if you haven't already. Or reread it :D
A protagonist whose 'holier than thou' attitude towards other girls makes it difficult to sympathise with her when things go wrong. And that's pretty much the whole book - you think Bianca has a moment of personal growth only to disappoint a moment later. Unfortunately, the other characters were so cookie-cutter and bland and you really need people that stand out in a good girl/bad boy formula storyline.

“No matter where you go or what you do to distract yourself, reality catches up with you eventually.”
I did end up watching the movie first and while this did affect my opinion at first, after awhile I started to think of the book and the movie as two completely different things and enjoyed each of them for very different reasons.
For Bianca her finding out she was the DUFF empowered her in a way and was almost her downfall. She grabbed onto it and clung to it for a while, but she also used it as an excuse for doing certain things. While I did like that she owned up to her slut-shaming and how using Wesley for an escape wasn't the right thing to be doing. I disliked the fact that she just dropped her friends and stopped talking to them when it started to get rough in her family life. Especially when it came to things involving her dad.
Wesley was not a like-able character in the beginning. But as Bianca started liking him I did too and I realized that he had his own problems as well and used certain things as a form of escapism to plus he made a pretty good distraction for Bianca as well. He was also a lot smarter then people give him credit for.
As for Toby I never really liked him all that much. I did see the appeal of him for Bianca, but I mostly saw him as the person that she had been crushing on for so long that her feelings on him most likely wouldn't have still been the same as they were when she first started liking him.
Now I'm not going to lie I hated this book at first due to how Bianca acted in certain situations, how Wesley acted, and how they both escaped their problems. But after awhile I stopped hating it so much and realized that in some messed up way it actually worked and they did end up being better people. I'm also glad that I watched the movie first because I think without it I wouldn't have ever ended up reading this book.
Disclaimer: This book does contain sex and talk of sex but it is not graphic.

I saw the trailer for the movie, and was intrigued. It reminded me a bit of She's All That. She's All That, the Duff is not. Bianca's home life and relationship with her parents sets her on a course of sexual release with Wesley, the school's most popular womanizer.
I struggled to finish this book. I understand why Bianca's attitude was the way it was, but it drove me further from her. I wish there was more substance to Bianca's hatred towards Wesley other than repeating he sleeps with everyone. Bianca and Wesley's relationship is purely physical, until the latter half of the book, when Bianca confronts Wesley on his womanzing ways.
Her lying to her best friends to where she goes to cover up her hook ups with Wesley, and then not understanding why they were angry with her was a bit unbelievable.
It's a quick read. I just don't think I was the right target audience for the book.

Only read this because a former student begged me. I think they'll be disappointed in my feeling about it.
I actually enjoyed this book a lot more than i expected.
i related a lot with the main girl, although at first i was like respect yourself but after awhile i thought you go girl.

My whole reason for choosing this book was because of the associated movie. I have enjoyed performances by the actress, Mae Whitman. She is cast as the lead character, "Bianca". This is not how I normally choose books but I know the "book is usually better".
At the start, I was turned off because I could not relate to the characters. I stuck with it hoping the movie will be better. Based on the trailers I have seen, I sense the plots are very different.
In the end, my opinions turned, as there was a lesson learned. I may not have agreed with the actions taken, but there was a moral to the story. Knowing the author wrote the book as a teen was impressive. Her writing talent, during the last half, was insightful for someone who has not had the adult experience to look back on the past.

Received free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was painful to get through. I was hopeful that I'd enjoy it because of the stellar reviews I've seen, but unfortunately that was not the case. The DUFF is only a book about stupid teenagers and nothing more. Really, you're gonna sleep around with the guy who just called you ugly and you claim you hate? I'm rolling my eyes over here. I realize this book was written by a teenager, but based upon my high school experiences, this is not what high school was like. Also, the movie trailer looks nothing like the premise of the novel, much like how The Princess Diaries movie was a very loose adaptation.
