Despite the main characters' appeal, especially Bianca who is as cynic as I am, and although I liked the story a lot, I found myself getting annoying by the plot. The dramatic story line develops well, but is resolved too easy to be realistic.
SpoilerTwo major points in this story annoyed me for the ease they get solved: one, it's her father's relapse in alcoholism. A slap, a punch, one night out and voilà, her father is himself again. Normally it takes a little bit more. The other, it's her best friend's anger at her when she begins to avoid her. One phone call, one confession and we're BFFs again without not even a shout. Probably my friends wouldn't be that understanding fO.o

What I found very refreshing it was the amount of sex talk you find in the book. It was bold, but the approach was very natural. What I don't know is how the target of this book would react to the mention of oral sex xDDD

Anyway, I enjoyed the book and considering the writer was the age of her heroine at that time I think she achieved a lot.

My favourite part of the book: Bianca and Wesley's conversation at her home when he goes to visit her b/c he's worried *___* Oh, and the letter, not very realistic but super cute :)

The first time I read this, I was a teenager and probably gave it 5 stars. Now that I’m thirty, there are definitely parts that now seem juvenile, but the overall characters and plot still get a 3.5 at least from me. Just a fun, quick read that reminds you what being a teenager can feel like.

Clever and funny. Easy quick read but very entertaining.

2/5 Stars what the actual f*ck...

I love the film so I decided I wanted to read the book, a big mistake it was nothing and I mean NOTHING like the film. It's completely different and so bad. I love the film and this just sucked. Even the characters were different and Bella Thornes character isn't even in it!! There's no romantic build up whatsoever the book is just one big eye roll.

This is clearly the writer’s first book; it does not have the awareness that her more recent work has. I had just finished ‘Poison Ivy: Thorns’, penned by Keplinger. The writing for that YA graphic Novel was amazing, and you can really see the author’s growth between writing that, and ‘DUFF’

I read this for research on fat representation for work, knowing that many fat people have been hurt by the way this book has lacked sensitivity reads, and education on diversity/representation, and poorly represented fatness. While I understand the author’s POV as a teen writing this, I see why people who are fat, and who love themselves, and know there is nothing wrong or “Ugly” about fatness are absolutely valid in being upset by this book, and the movie inspired by it.

Damn! This is completely different from the movie! The book is way better than the movie. Totally worth my time reading it, though it can be a little dramatic.

Every girl at one point or another has felt they were the DUFF in their small group of friends, & for that reason, I loved this book.
I loved the hope.
I loved the possibility.
And I loved the idea that not every DUFF has settled for being one.
Inspiring.
Not always realistic.
But you can't expect all books to be realistic.
