This novel felt a little bit unpolished compared to the Clocktaur War books but nevertheless, I can never go wrong reading a Kingfisher book. The plot had me in its grip and the characters were enjoyable. Also HELL YEAH GNOLES, I love me some gnoles. I could see who the true villian was a mile away though, and the pacing felt a bit slow/repetitive. But in any case, looking forward to moving on to the Saints of Steel series.

WARNING: It is the first book of a series that the author has no definite plans to resume and part of a larger story but can be read and understood without reading the other books.

It was a fun read and I enjoyed it.
