I think this book was a twitter find from a person I don't follow. This was in their giveaway pile as a "not my speed" (I think). It was very my speed. Very.
MMORPG, queerness, YA, happy ending, fandom, BTS-alike, yes yes yes yes.

update: i listened to the audiobook again AND I STILL LOVE IT

This book, this book, this BOOK. AHH. Y'all, this had everything on my must-have list. Let's be real, anything by Emma Mills is literally on my must-have list. Hilarious. Charming. Enchantment. (Did I do it properly? Please tell me that Gideon and Claudia would laugh to that!)

For real though, Emma Mills manages to make the absolutely most lovable characters. Her dialogue is WHIPSMART. I loved this setting — tiers of richness? SIGN ME UP. I love diving into the shark-infested waters of private school life. Speaking of fantastic plot points: UH, can we get a moment to appreciate TION? I was 100% a Directioner back in the day, and TION is essentially the perfect boy band, so. You know, I could relate. And Battle Quest? PERFECTION. I played (or watched my brother play, as one does) Ragnarok Online throughout my childhood, as well as pretty much every other MMORPG known to man. Drama? Yeah, you could say I've dabbled in a school play or two (or all of them, let's be real...). Babies? Love them too! This book shone because of its quirky details. Tell me more about inequality, tell me more about health risks, spill all the secrets that all these characters face. I live for it.

Claudia is the perfect narrator because she is so, so compassionate. And that naturally causes everyone to spill all their guts to her (convenient in the best way!). I saw myself relating more with the iron fists — Julia, Zoe, and Iris. Also, her sarcasm is much appreciated. Gideon likes when she laughs, and I do too. Speaking of Mr. Gideon Prewitt... can I have one?!?! He is a perfect space prince, too pure and good for this world. BLOOMIN' ONION. Sticking it (inadvertently) to his haters with a record player. The flower, the pizzas, the morning drive. JustGideonPrewittThings, the meme. Let your memes be dreams. I just want them to feel regular and happy, but ad infinitum.

So aside from these two, who else did I love? Alex and Zoe, for being there and loving fiercely. Mr. Wallace, for realizing when things are something else. Ms. Wallace, with her knitted hats and weekly updates. Noah, for being the best guy around. Iris and Paige, for an epic love story. Lena, for understanding Shakespeare and providing my favourite... string of words? I can't even call it a phrase. Del, for being an absolute killer — and also being there when necessary. Alicia, for kicking off the best five-person double date. Julia, for the chili (dear Lord, woman). At this point, I'm literally listing off every single name even briefly mentioned in the book. This paragraph is looking like an acknowledgements section.

I don't know how Emma Mills manages to pull off something glorious EVERY TIME, but I love it all the same. Can I live in this book?
